The US has revealed a list of sectors unacceptable for cyber attacks

Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden

The list of sectors of the American economy that Joe Biden handed over to Vladimir Putin, which the US authorities consider unacceptable, includes 16 industries. This is reported by the press service of the State Department.

“Among other things, it includes the chemical sector, communications, critical manufacturing, dams, the military-industrial complex, emergency services, the energy sector, the financial services sector, the food industry and agriculture,” a representative of the foreign ministry said at a briefing.

According to him, Washington believes that critical sectors for the country should not be attacked by cybercriminals, regardless of whether they are supported by the state or act independently.

The representative of the State Department noted that Russia and the United States will soon gather their cybersecurity experts to discuss cooperation in this area. He also stressed that Biden made it clear during his conversation with Putin that if our interests were threatened, he would act very decisively.

Both sides said before the meeting that cybersecurity will be one of the key topics of the Putin-Biden summit. Following the meeting, the American president said that he had handed over to his Russian counterpart a list of industries prohibited for cyber attacks.

The US accuses Russia of several cyber attacks in recent months: a long-running attack on US federal agencies, hacking Microsoft through the software company Solar Wind, recent hacker attacks on the pipeline networks of the country’s largest operator Colonial Pipeline and meat processing company JBS S. A. Moscow denies involvement in crimes

The Putin-Biden summit was held at Villa La Grange in Geneva on June 16. The meeting lasted about four hours, and for almost two hours the leaders held talks only in the presence of the foreign ministers. Following the summit, a joint statement on strategic stability was adopted.

Moscow and Washington agreed on the return of their ambassadors and start working on removing obstacles to the activities of diplomatic missions. At a press conference following the meeting, Putin said that the relations between the two countries had accumulated a lot of blockages, but at the same time drew attention to the mood to find solutions to problems. In general, the Russian president did not see any hostility during the negotiations.

Biden also praised the atmosphere of the meeting as good and positive. According to him, even the divergent points of view on some issues were clearly expressed by both sides, in a normal diplomatic tone. The success of the summit, according to the host of the White House, can be assessed in about six months, when it becomes clear whether the agreements reached during the negotiations have been implemented.
