Oleg Korolev, a senator from the Lipetsk region and the former head of the region, who was involved in an accident in May, submitted an application for early resignation. This was reported to RBC by the chairman of the Upper House committee on regulations and organization of parliamentary activities Vyacheslav Timchenko.
“Senator from the Lipetsk region Oleg Korolev submitted a written application to resign his powers for health reasons. In accordance with the regulations, the application will be considered by the committee, the council of the Chamber and submitted to the next meeting of the Federation Council, ” he explained.
In mid-May, a video appeared on social networks, where the Lexus Korolev randomly moves through the streets of Lipetsk, knocks down road signs. After the car was stopped by the police, its wheels were broken and the sides were torn off. The senator sitting behind the wheel was filmed sleeping. Baza reported that he was drunk and refused a medical examination.
Korolev himself explained that he was sober, he became ill during the ride. “It just took my heart away. The blood pressure rose sharply, there was an attack of atrial fibrillation. I, barely discerning the road, drove to the side of the road, drank the medicine, turned to the traffic cops,and told the senator his version of what happened.

According to him, he did not commit accidents, and after contacting the traffic police, the inspectors escorted him home. Korolev stressed that he does not drink alcohol in recent years due to heart disease.
The secretary of the General Council of United Russia, Andrey Turchak, said that after the incident, Korolev’s membership in the party was suspended until the end of the investigation. “If the version of Oleg Petrovich is confirmed and he proves his innocence, “United Russia” will be ready to restore his membership in the party, ” Turchak explained.
The governor of the Lipetsk region, Igor Artamonov, reported that the police materials on the facts of violations of the rules by Korolev were sent to the regional prosecutor’s office. “Based on the results of the inspections, according to the procedure, the Federation Council will make a decision on bringing Oleg Korolev to justice. Korolev has represented the Lipetsk Region in the Federation Council since 2018. Prior to that, he was a member of the Upper House in 1994–2002. From 1998 to 2018, he served as the Governor of the Lipetsk Region. He left early, at his own request.
