The State Department warned about new sanctions against Russia

Ned Price

The US authorities, together with their allies, are preparing additional anti-Russian sanctions in connection with the special operation in Ukraine. This was stated by the head of the press service of the State Department, Ned Price, the broadcast was conducted on the YouTube channel of the ministry.

“We are constantly tightening sanctions and preparing for additional sanctions together with our allies and partners. We are strengthening NATO’s defenses, including on the eastern flank,” he said.

According to him, the United States and its allies are doing everything possible to improve Ukraine’s position in the field of defense and on the negotiating table.

The United States and the European Union have imposed several packages of sanctions against Russia since the end of February. The restrictions affected the country’s leadership, including President Vladimir Putin, a number of Russian businessmen, the banking sector and the assets of the Central Bank. The last time the United States imposed new sanctions on April 1, 120 Russian and Belarusian organizations related, in particular, to the defense sector fell under restrictions.

In addition, a day earlier, the US Treasury expanded its sanctions list, adding 13 individuals and 21 companies from Russia. The blocking sanctions of the United States included the Research Institute “Vector”, JSC “Micron”, Research Institute of Molecular Electronics (NIIME), LLC “Serniya Engineering” and other high-tech companies.

On March 21, Reuters reported that the European Union is working on the fifth package, under which the countries discussed the possibility of imposing an embargo on Russian oil. However, European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Paolo Gentiloni said that the new restrictions will not affect the energy sector, first of all, the sanctions will be aimed at ensuring that Russia does not have the opportunity to circumvent the measures already introduced.

The Russian Foreign Ministry called the restrictive measures by Western countries “unprecedented in scale” and illegal from the point of view of international law sanctions pressure. Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev pointed out that “after the introduction of infernal sanctions against Russia, it was expected that they were returning to the West like a boomerang.” He suggested that a new recession may begin there and not all countries will be able to cope with difficulties.
