Canada intends to impose sanctions against nine Russians and nine citizens of Belarus in connection with the military operation in Ukraine, the Canadian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. Their names are not specified.

“The measures being prepared will impose restrictions against nine Russians and nine Belarusians for allowing and contributing to violations of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine. These people are close to the Russian and Belarusian regimes,” the ministry said in a release.

The decision was made against the background of reports about what happened in the Ukrainian city of Bucha. On the eve of April 3, the Ukrainian authorities and Western media began to distribute photos from Bucha. Reuters reported that the pictures show the bodies of local residents. The mayor of the city, Anatoly Fedoruk, in a conversation with AFP, said that these people were shot.

Moscow denies involvement of the Russian Armed Forces in the killings. The Defense Ministry called the publication of photos with bodies on the streets of Bucha a provocation and stated that the Russian military did not harm the locals while they were in the city, and left it on March 30. The Kremlin called the materials that appeared fakes and a video blog.

Canada has already imposed sanctions against Russian businessmen, top managers and officials in connection with the situation in Ukraine. Businessmen Roman Abramovich, Oleg Deripaska, Alisher Usmanov, Yevgeny Prigozhin, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov, Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko, head of the Central Election Commission Ella Pamfilova, Head of the Ministry of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov, representative of the Ministry of Defense Igor Konashenkov, acting Head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Alexander Chupriyan, 160 members of the Federation Council fell under the restrictions.

In addition, the sanctions lists included Sberbank, VTB, Gazprombank, Alfa-Bank, Otkritie, Sovcombank, Gazprom, Russian Railways, Gazpromneft, Transneft, departments of the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank, as well as The National Welfare Fund.

In addition, Canada canceled all export permits for Russian companies and decided to stop the supply of crude oil from Russia.
