The Ministry of Justice has launched a register of individuals-foreign agents, including journalists Evgeny Kiselyov and Matvey Ganapolsky.
In the column “Information about foreign sources” opposite their surnames Ukraine is indicated, and in the column about information about the implementation of political activity “implementation of political activity”.
Ganapolsky previously collaborated with “Moskovsky Komsomolets” and “Echo of Moscow”, Ukrainian “Radio ERA” and NewsOne. In 2016, he received Ukrainian citizenship.
Evgeny Kiselyov worked for NTV until the early 2000s, served as the general director of the channel. Later he began to cooperate with the Ukrainian channels “Inter”, NewsOne, “Ukraine 24”.
The Ministry’s maintenance of a unified register of individuals performing the functions of a foreign agent or affiliated with organizations performing such functions is provided for by the law on remote electronic voting. It was adopted in the third reading on March 11.
The register will include those included in the registers of natural persons-foreign agents, media-foreign agents, NGOs-foreign agents, as well as those who are part of unregistered public associations of foreign agents and managers and employees of media-foreign agents. In addition, it will include individuals engaged in political activities and receiving money or other property assistance from organizations or individuals who perform the functions of a foreign agent to carry out political activities.

The interlocutor of RBC in the State Duma explained that the amendments providing for the maintenance of the register are of a technical nature. This is necessary for the convenience of the CEC, which will receive all data on foreign agents and related individuals during election campaigns. The amendments for the mentioned persons do not imply any additional requirements for labeling in social networks and the media, the source said.
