The United States will announce a new package of sanctions against Russia on April 6, Reuters reports, citing its own source, as well as Bloomberg.

According to Reuters, the restrictions will affect several Russian officials and their family members, some state-owned enterprises and financial institutions. Also, according to agencies, the United States wants to impose a ban on all investments in Russia.

The agency notes that the United States is announcing a new list of sanctions in coordination with the G7 and the European Union.

The US State Department warned about new sanctions against Russia on April 4.

Together with the United States, the EU is developing the next— fifth— package of sanctions, as Reuters reported back in March. In early April, European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Paolo Gentiloni clarified that the new sanctions will not affect the energy sector, they will concern restrictions on the possibility of circumventing the already imposed sanctions.

Later, CNBC, citing two sources, reported that it was about restrictions on aircraft leasing, the export and import of aviation fuel, steel products and luxury goods.

On April 5, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen named six main EU proposals on sanctions. Among them are a ban on the import of coal from Russia, a ban on transactions with four Russian banks, including VTB, a ban on Russian ships entering EU ports, a ban on the export of quantum computers, semiconductors and transport equipment, a ban on the import of wood, cement, seafood, alcoholic beverages and a ban on the participation of Russian companies in public procurement in EU member states.

In addition, the EU is working on sanctions against oil imports from Russia, she added.

The Russian Foreign Ministry called the introduction of restrictions by Western countries “unprecedented in scale” and illegal from the point of view of international law sanctions pressure. On April 3, the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov announced that Russia is experiencing the largest sanctions burden in history. He also called sanctions against heads of state “crossing the line of reasonableness.” In his opinion, the authorities of Western countries are capable of “any nonsense”, as they have imposed restrictions on President Vladimir Putin.
