The USA, Britain and Australia have agreed to work on hypersonic weapons

Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom will begin working together to create hypersonic weapons within the framework of the AUKUS defense partnership, according to a trilateral statement by the leaders of the countries published on the website of the British government.

The statement also says that the parties will work on the creation of means of countering hypersonic weapons and electronic warfare. In addition, Washington, London and Canberra will expand efforts to exchange information and cooperate in the field of defense innovation.

“These measures are planned as a complement to our efforts to deepen cooperation in the cybersphere, the field of artificial intelligence, the field of quantum technologies and additional capabilities in the field of underwater vehicles,” the statement says. The countries also promised to involve allies and partners in this work in the future.

AUKUS members reaffirmed their commitment to the “free and open Indo-Pacific region”.

The fact that US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will announce the joint development of hypersonic weapons earlier on Tuesday was reported by the Financial Times. The newspaper wrote that the countries intend to resist the growing influence of China in the Indo-Pacific region.

The United States has previously expressed concern about China’s development and launches of its hypersonic weapons. In the fall, the Financial Times wrote that Beijing’s development is based on technologies unknown to the United States. The newspaper claimed that the Chinese aircraft managed to reach a speed five times faster than the speed of light, and at the same time launch, which no country had previously been able to do. Experts claimed that China had managed to move much further than the Pentagon in the development of hypersonic weapons.
