American general told what the US will teach Ukrainian

The US Armed Forces have begun extended training of the Ukrainian military at the Grafenwer training ground in Bavaria to prepare for large-scale combat operations, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milli said.

“We want Ukrainians to be able to successfully defend their country,” Milli said (quoted by the Washington Post). According to him, Ukraine “does nothing but defend itself” and tries to regain the territories lost during the fighting.

Milli clarified that the training will focus on combined arms combat, in which different types of troops take part, including aviation, armored vehicles, artillery, etc.

About 500 Ukrainian servicemen will undergo extended combat training, which started on January 15. Milli informed that they would be back on the battlefield within five—eight weeks. According to the general, the goal of the program is to deliver the weapons and equipment promised to Kiev and train the military to use it, “before the spring rains begin,” AP reports. The training is aimed at ensuring that the APU has worked out the skills of offensive and repelling attacks, the agency writes.

According to WP, Millie plans to spend this week in Europe to get acquainted with the preparations and meet with European colleagues. On Friday, January 20, he, along with Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin, will personally take part in a meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine at the Ramstein base.

The European Union is also planning to create a military training mission for Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov criticized the idea, saying that it is aimed at “training, in fact, anti-Russian units”.

During 2022, the Russian Defense Ministry repeatedly reported on attempts by the Armed Forces of Ukraine to launch a counteroffensive on certain sections of the contact line, indicating that they were unsuccessful. For example, on the eve of January 15, the department reported on the repulse of the APU attack in the LPR.
