This is reported by the South China Morning Post (SCMP) newspaper. Many Chinese diplomats believe, the newspaper pointed out, that Qin Gang’s inclusion in the CPC Central Committee means that he will soon be transferred back to Beijing, and a promotion will allow him to become the next Chinese foreign minister. At the same time, according to the publication, Wang Yi will take the place of the head of the office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on Foreign Affairs and adviser to Xin Jinping Yang Jiechi, who was not included in the list of members of the Central Committee following the results of the XX Congress.
The XX Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was held in Beijing from October 16 to 22 and elected a new composition of the CPC Central Committee. On Sunday, the first plenum of the CPC Central Committee of the 20th convocation will take place, he will appoint a new composition of the Politburo of the Central Committee and the Standing Committee of the Politburo – in fact, the party and political elite, which will govern the country in the next five years.
Immediately after the closure, the Xinhua news Agency published a list of CPC Central Committee members. It lacks four members of the standing committee of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, the governing body of seven people. We are talking about 67-year-old Li Keqiang, 72-year-old chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (the country’s parliament) Li Zhanshu, 67-year-old Chairman of the National Committee of the People’s Political Consultative Council (supreme advisory body) Wang Yang and 68-year-old Vice Premier Han Zheng.
Wang Yi has been the head of the Chinese diplomatic department since March 2013. Prior to that, he headed the Department of Political Analysis of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Japan, headed the Office for work with Taiwan of the CPC Central Committee.
Qin Gang was the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry from 2005 to 2010. After that, he was China’s ambassador to the UK for two years, and from 2011 to 2015 – Director of the Information and Press Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China. In 2015-2018, Qin Gang headed the Protocol Department, and from 2018 to 2021, he served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. In July 2021, he was appointed China’s ambassador to the United States.
