Reuters learned about Washington's advice to Ukraine to abandon the offensive

The White House advised Ukraine to abandon the launch of a major offensive, Reuters reports, citing the words of a senior official from the US presidential administration, who told reporters on condition of anonymity.

According to him, the United States considers it necessary to start waiting for the supply of new weapons to Ukraine and the moment when the Ukrainian military will be trained to use it. The negotiations between the United States and Ukraine on the possibility of a counteroffensive were conducted in the context that Ukrainians should first devote enough time to learning how to use the weapons provided to them.

At the same time, the official stressed that the United States firmly adheres to its decision not to supply Abrams tanks to Ukraine, “because they are expensive and difficult to maintain.”

Deliveries of new arms shipments to Ukraine were discussed on January 20 at the Ramstein summit, which was attended by representatives of 50 countries and international organizations. Following the meeting, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said that the volume of the new package of US military assistance to Ukraine will amount to $ 2.5 billion, which will bring the total amount of support provided to Kiev by Washington since the beginning of hostilities to $26.7 billion. It will include NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems (SAMs) and eight Avenger SAMs, 59 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, 90 Stryker armored personnel carriers, 53 MRAP armored personnel carriers, 350 Humvee armored cars, as well as ammunition.

New batches of weapons will also be provided to Ukraine by US allies: Sweden has decided to allocate 90 infantry fighting vehicles and Archer howitzers to Kiev, Denmark will transfer 19 howitzers, Latvia Stigner systems, helicopters and other weapons. In addition, 155-millimeter howitzers will be transferred from Estonia.

Moscow has repeatedly criticized Western countries for supplying weapons and military equipment to Kiev. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that NATO de facto got into the conflict in Ukraine, and the transfer of heavy tanks would add problems to the Ukrainian people and would not be able to fundamentally change anything.
