Yevgeny Prigozhin commented on the US decision to add the PMC “Wagner” to the list of transnational criminal organizations, his words were published by the press service.
«Finally now PMCs «Wagner» and the Americans— colleagues. Our relationship from now on can be called “the dismantling of criminal clans”, he said.
Earlier, the coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, John Kirby, confirmed that Washington qualifies the PMC “Wagner” as a transnational criminal organization. According to him, the actions of the PMCs “Wagner” pose a “transcontinental threat”, including due to “ongoing serious criminal activity. In this regard, next week the US Treasury will impose new sanctions against the company.
PMCs “Wagner” has been under US sanctions since 2017, and its founder, the owner of the company “Concord” Evgeny Prigozhin — 2016. At the end of December 2022, the US Treasury tightened export control measures against the group; it received the status of an “end military user”, which makes it impossible to transfer technologies and goods produced anywhere using American equipment to it.
State Department Adviser Derek Scholle, during a visit to Serbia on January 12, said that Wagner’s activities were of great concern to the United States and Washington was making efforts to neutralize the company. “We look forward to working together with the government here in Belgrade and in other places where [PMCs] Wagner is active to put an end to their activities,” Scholle said.
