In Germany, Letzte Generation eco-activists poured mashed potatoes over a painting from the Haystacks series by French artist Claude Monet. They said that the world is in a state of climate catastrophe because of fossil fuels

The incident occurred at the Barberini Museum in Potsdam, Germany.
“People are starving, people are freezing, people are dying. A climate catastrophe is happening, and you are all scared of tomato soup or mashed potatoes in the picture. Do you know what I’m afraid of? I’m scared because science says we won’t have anything to feed our families in 2050. To make you listen, do you need mashed potatoes in the picture?”the activist told the visitors of the museum during the action.
Letzte Generation activists added that Monet loved nature and captured its “fragile beauty” in his works.
“Haystacks” is a series of paintings created by Monet in 1888–1891. The Barberini Museum houses a work written in 1890.
Last week, on October 14, eco-activists from the Just Stop Oil movement poured tomato soup over Van Gogh’s painting “Sunflowers” in the National Gallery of London. The participants of the movement demand to stop oil and gas production, as well as to pay attention to the rise in prices. The canvas was not damaged, the activists were detained.
