The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France summoned the Russian Ambassador Alexei Meshkov to notify about the expulsion of diplomats, the BFMTV channel reported, citing sources.

According to the TV channel, the French Foreign Ministry will notify the ambassador about the expulsion of diplomats whose activities “contradict the security interests of France”.

The French Foreign Ministry announced the decision to expel Russian diplomats on April 4. The Ministry did not specify how many employees of the Russian representative office will be affected. BFMTV reported that France will send 30 Russian diplomats. Le Parisien, citing sources, wrote that 35 diplomats would be expelled. The last figure, with reference to the source, was also called the Figaro newspaper.

“Our first duty is always to ensure the safety of the French and Europeans,” the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement. Paris clarified that the decision was made within the framework of a single European approach.

Russia will give a “decent response” to the decision to expel diplomats, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told TASS.

The ambassador of Germany, Sergeynechaev, expressed “categorical rejection of the one-sided accusations of Berlin, which hastened, without waiting for an independent investigation of the events in the city of Bucha, to side with the Kiev regime, which had previously been repeatedly convicted of spreading false information,” the embassy statement said.
