Medvedev found no reason to offend Scholz because of gas problems

FRussia is an “unfriendly country” that imposed sanctions against Russia and supplies weapons to Ukraine, thereby declaring a “hybrid war” and acting like an “enemy,” Medvedev said

Medvedev found no reason to offend Scholz because of gas problems

Olaf Scholz

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has nothing to be offended about, since Germany has declared a hybrid war on Russia and is acting as an enemy, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev wrote in Telegram after Scholz’s remarks about Russian gas supplies.

On September 4, the German Chancellor once again called Russia an unreliable gas supplier.

“Here are the ones on! Germany was offended again: a) an unfriendly country, b) imposed sanctions against the entire Russian economy and its citizens, c) supplies Ukraine with lethal weapons directed against our armed forces,” Medvedev wrote.

And after that, “the uncle is surprised that the Germans have some minor problems with gas,” the deputy chairman of the Security Council noted. He compared the situation to a children’s joke: “And they swear that I picked my nose.”

On September 2, Gazprom announced its decision to completely shut off the gas coming through the Nord Stream pipeline until the equipment’s operating problems are eliminated. From August 31 to September 2, pumping was suspended for maintenance of the only remaining Trent 60 gas engine at the Portovaya compressor station, after which it was supposed to resume.

The company explained the termination of supplies along the “Nord Stream” with an oil leak. Rostechnadzor warned that the malfunction does not allow for trouble-free operation of the turbine.

Siemens Energy, which services the engines for the gas pipeline, in turn, did not see any technical reasons for cutting off the gas. They explained that such leaks do not affect the operation of turbines and previously their appearance did not lead to the shutdown of the pipeline.

Germany expressed fears in the summer that Russia could completely shut off gas. Since the end of July, pumping along the “Nord Stream” has been reduced to 20% due to problems with turbines. One of the engines got stuck in Canada, where it was under repair, because of the sanctions of this country against Russia. Ottawa eventually agreed to send a turbine to Russia through Germany to get aroundsanctions. However, Gazprom stated that this decision was made without the consent of the Russian side and it does not comply with the terms of the contract with the British company Industrial Turbine Company (UK) Limited (part of Siemens Energy) for the repair of turbines. Siemens Energy, in turn, said that the turbine is ready for operation and it can be delivered to Russia immediately if she wants it.

In the Kremlin, in response to Germany’s concerns, they objected: Russia treats its reputation as a responsible supplier very carefully.

At the moment, Germany has pumped gas into storage by 85%. Scholz expressed confidence that the country will be able to survive the winter. According to him, Germany has been preparing since December last year for the fact that Russia may stop supplying fuel.

Italy reported a twofold increase in energy import costs

Paccording to the head of the Italian Finance Ministry, in 2022 the country’s energy import costs will increase from €43 billion to €100 billion, which is 3% of GDP

Italy reported a twofold increase in energy import costs

The cost of energy imports for Italy in 2022 will increase by 60 billion euros compared to 2021, which is 3% of the country’s GDP. This was announced by the Minister of Economy and Finance of Italy Daniele Franco, reports Reuters.

“In terms of energy imports, we are moving from €43 billion in 2021 to €100 billion, which this figure may reach in 2022. An increase of 60 billion euros means 3% of GDP, the outflow of Italian resources abroad, which nullifies the surplus that we have accumulated in recent years,” he said.

According to the minister, in 2021 Italy imported three quarters of the required volumes of energy resources. At the same time, at the beginning of the year, Italy imported 40% of gas from Russia, but in July this figure decreased to 25%. Thus, Italy has overtaken Germany in terms of reducing dependence on Russian gas.

The energy crisis is growing in Europe against the background of rising gas prices. At the end of July, the EU countries reached a “political agreement” on a voluntary reduction of gas consumption by 15% by the end of March 2023, in connection with which some states introduced a special regime in the energy sector to save fuel for the cold.

Earlier, the general manager of the Italian Eni, Claudio Descalzi, admitted that Italy would be able to survive the winter in case of stoppages of Russian gas supplies. According to him, as of mid-June, the Italian gas storage facilities were 54% full, but by October they should be 70-80% full.

On August 31, Eni reported that Gazprom had reduced gas supplies to Italy from 27 million cubic meters to 20 million cubic meters. Also, from September 2, Gazprom completely cut off supplies via Nord Stream-1, citing technical reasons.

The Times has learned about the preparation of the British police for “economic protests”

Paccording to the publication, against the background of the energy and economic crisis, the British police are preparing for the growth of “certain types of crime in the country,” including protests, theft, theft, fraud and online crimes

The Times has learned about the preparation of the British police for

UK police officers are developing emergency proposals and preparing for law enforcement violations this winter, as the country is facing an unprecedented economic crisis. This is reported by the Times with reference to the relevant documents at the disposal of the publication.

According to the publication, the police are developing emergency plans based on the fact that “economic shocks and financial instability can lead to an increase in certain types of crime in the country”.

Such actions were attributed by the police to crimes in the field of procurement, shoplifting, burglary, car theft, online fraud and blackmail, as well as crimes that “are based on the use of financial vulnerability”.

An unnamed member of parliament told the publication that British police officers also fear that without the intervention of the authorities in the current crisis, the country could return to the “feverish conditions” that led to the London riots in 2011. “If the support doesn’t live up to expectations, they will expect scenes like 2011,” he said.

Energy carriers in European countries began to rise in price after the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine and the introduction of sanctions by the West against Moscow. So, by mid-August, the debt of UK residents for electricity reached a record 1.3 billion, and inflation exceeded 10.1% for the first time in 40 years.

At the end of August, Reuters, citing a statement by the British energy regulator Ofgem, reported that electricity prices in the UK will increase by 80% from October 1, and the average household bill for the year will exceed 3.5 thousand (more than $4.1 thousand). Thus, the upper threshold for the cost of electricity is 3549 almost it will triple the figures of last winter— £1277. At the same time, the head of the regulator, Jonathan Brierley, warned that from January 1, suppliers plan to raise prices for consumers again.

Earlier, The Sun newspaper, citing sources, reported that the UK government is developing plans in case of protests due to a sharp rise in electricity prices and an increase in the number of crimes.

In Ukraine, it was reported about the shutdown of the fifth power unit at the Zaporozhye NPP

PThe fifth unit of the NPP was shut down after the shelling, the sixth power unit remains in operation, Energoatom reports. Earlier, VGA Energodar reported that the fifth and sixth blocks are in working condition

In Ukraine, they reported the shutdown of the fifth power unit at the Zaporozhye NPP

The fifth power unit of the Zaporozhye NPP was shut down after the shelling of the station’s communication lines, according to the Ukrainian state-owned enterprise Energoatom.

«On the evening of September 3, 2022 <...> at 19:35, the power unit No. 5 of the NPP was disconnected from the power grid,— the message says.

Currently, the sixth power unit remains in operation, which supplies electricity to Ukraine with limited capacity through a backup line, and also provides for the own needs of the Zaporozhye NPP, the Ukrainian company added.

Earlier, on September 3, the civil-military administration of the city of Energodara reported that the fifth and sixth power units of the Zaporozhye NPP are in working condition.

“Specialists are working on the power transmission line previously damaged by the shelling of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Two damages were detected on 330 and 750 lines. The fifth and sixth power units are in working condition. The total capacity is 900–1000 MW»,— reported the CAA.

At the same time, according to the report, the supply of energy from the Zaporozhye NPP to the territory controlled by Kiev was suspended “due to technical difficulties”.

Since the end of February, Russian troops have been controlling the territory of Energodar and the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, but the NPP itself is still managed by Ukrainian operators. Since the beginning of hostilities, it has been constantly subjected to shelling, in which Russia and Ukraine blame each other.

On August 25, as a result of damage from shelling, the station was completely disconnected from the power grid for some time for the first time in history. The head of the Ukrainian Energoatom, Pyotr Kotin, also claimed that Russian engineers had developed a plan to switch the NPP in case the fighting would lead to the rupture of the remaining lines.

The head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, has repeatedly called for an end to hostilities near the facility in order to avoid a nuclear catastrophe. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has repeatedly advocated the demilitarization of the Zaporozhye NPP. This goal was also called by the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, but the Russian side opposes, arguing that the station will become more vulnerable.

On September 1, the IAEA mission headed by Grossi visited the NPP. He said that the buildings of the nuclear power plant were damaged as a result of shelling. Six specialists of the organization remained at the facility, two of them will be there on a permanent basis.

Erdogan promised Greece a “high price” for provoking the military

TThe Uretsky president called on the Greek authorities to “learn lessons from history” and threatened consequences in case of provocations. Earlier, Ankara said that Greece had brought S-300 complexes to Turkish fighters, Athens denies this

Erdogan promised Greece a

Recep Tayyip Erdogan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, speaking at the Teknofest Aviation, Space and technology festival in the city of Samsun in the north of the country, appealed to the Greek authorities to “learn lessons from history,” Anadolu agency reports.

“If you continue the current course of provocations, you will pay a high price. I want to tell Athens only one thing: do not forget about Izmir! <...> We will take the necessary steps at the right time. This can happen unexpectedly and on any of the nights,” the Turkish leader said.

According to the agency, Erdogan is referring to the capture of Smyrna (modern Izmir) in September 1922, an episode of the Greco-Turkish War of 1919–1922. The Turkish army under the command of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk entered the city occupied by Greece, and the Greek troops were forced to leave it.

Relations between Ankara and Athens have deteriorated in the last few months due to a dispute over the status of islands in the eastern Aegean Sea, which were transferred to Greece following the Lausanne Treaty of 1923. The countries continued to argue about the delimitation of territorial waters and airspace, and Turkey made claims to Greece because of the weapons onislands. Erdogan said earlier that attempts to use islands with a non-military status in the exercises would end in disaster, accusing Athens of putting pressure on the Turkish minority that lives in Western Thrace, Rhodes and Kos. In response, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that “history is not being rewritten because someone arbitrarily constructs it in his mind.”

At the end of August, CNN Turk reported that Turkish Air Force F-16 aircraft were flying in international space in the Aegean Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean, and Greece aimed missiles at them from the S-300 air defense system. According to Yeni Şafak’s source in the Turkish Defense Ministry, Ankara has decided to apply to NATO. The Greek Defense Ministry rejects the statements of the Turkish side and calls them myths, writes Newsbomb.gr with reference to sources in the department.

Estonia told about the idea to limit the transit of Russians to the EU

Estonia told about the idea to limit the transit of Russians to the EU

The European Union countries bordering Russia are discussing a joint solution to restrict the travel of Russian tourists through their territory to other EU states, Estonian Interior Ministry spokesman Veiko Pesur told the Estonian portal ERR.

“Currently, the countries bordering the Russian Federation are cooperating to achieve a joint solution,” he said.

There is a regulatory framework for restricting the passage of Russian tourists through the territory of Estonia, Pesur said. According to him, a “state sanction” may be imposed or the crossing of the state border may be restricted. In the first case, a government decree is needed, in the second- an order, he explained.

The Estonian Interior Ministry expects to reach a consensus on the issue of travel restrictions for Russian tourists in the coming days. If a common approach is determined, the Ministry will make a corresponding proposal to the Estonian government, Pesur said.

He did not specify which countries are participating in the negotiations, but the portal indicates that Estonia is talking about Latvia, Lithuania, Finland and Poland. Previously, they advocated the complete or partial termination of the issuance of Schengen visas to Russians.

During the discussion in Prague, the EU foreign ministers could not agree on the complete cessation of issuing visas to Russians. This was opposed by Germany, France and Hungary. As a result, a preliminary decision was made to suspend the simplified visa regime agreement between Russia and the EU. If it finally comes into force, the visa fee for Russian citizens will increase from €35 to €80, and the application processing period may increase. Now it is up to 10 days with the possibility of extending up to 30 days in some cases.

Kadyrov said that he had stayed too long and deserved an “indefinite and long vacation”

The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, wrote in Telegram that he “noticed that he had stayed too long” in office.

“I noticed myself that I stayed up too long. I think I fully deserve an indefinite and long vacation. I hope that you will support me and understand,” he wrote.

Kadyrov also posted a video in which he said that there is a saying in Chechnya: “No matter how long-awaited and respected a guest is, if he leaves on time, it’s even nicer.”

«I think my time has come too, until I was kicked out»,— said the head of Chechnya.

He declared that his youth had passed. “It turns out that I am already old, once I was young, inexperienced, and now I am still inexperienced, but youth has gone, gone somewhere,” Kadyrov said, noting that he would try to leave in time.

Ramzan Kadyrov has been the head of Chechnya since 2007, he has been in his position longer than all other leaders of Russian regions. The last time Kadyrov was re-elected as head of the republic in September 2021, his term of office expires in 2026.

At the end of July, Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded the head of Chechnya with the Order of Alexander Nevsky for his great contribution to the socio-economic development of the republic and the effective solution of tasks of great national importance. Kadyrov stated that he perceives the award as an advance and promised to selflessly serve for the benefit of the Chechen Republic and our great Motherland, Russia.

This is not the first time Kadyrov has spoken about his desire to resign. In 2017, in the program “Actors with Naila Asker-zadeh”, he said that this was his dream. “To be the head of the region and to be responsible for the people, for the republic before the Almighty, before the leadership of the state, well, before the people” is very difficult,” explained the head of Chechnya.

Then he said that he was not tired, but he believes that the time has come for changes in Chechnya. “Once upon a time, people like me were needed to fight, to restore order, and today we have order,” the head of the republic noted.

In 2016, Kadyrov stated that he was ready for any decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin and, in case of resignation, would take care of his family, household chores and solving “certain tasks” in the interests of Russia. “At any moment, if Vladimir Putin thinks he has to get in line, even as an infantryman, I am in a state of minute readiness!”The head of Chechnya spoke.

The supply of energy from the NPP to the territories controlled by Kiev was suspended

InEnergodar GA: The supply of energy from the NPP to the territories controlled by Kiev was suspended In the CAA of Energodar, they say that due to damage to the power lines due to shelling, electricity supplies from the Zaporozhye NPP to the territory controlled by Kiev have been suspended. The supply of energy from the NPP to the territories controlled by Kiev was suspended

The supply of energy from the Zaporozhye NPP to the territory controlled by Kiev has been suspended “due to technical difficulties,” the military-civil administration (CAA) of Energodar told RIA Novosti. They claim that as a result of shelling by Ukrainian troops, the power line was damaged.

According to the administration, the fifth and sixth power units of the Zaporozhye NPP are in working condition, the radiation background is normal.

The day before, Vladimir Rogov, a member of the Main Council of the Zaporozhye Regional State Administration, wrote in his Telegram that the Dnepropetrovsk power line was killed, also stating that this was due to the actions of the AFU. According to him, the station was switched to catering for its own needs.

Energodar and the territory of the nuclear power plant are now controlled by Russian troops, but the NPP itself is still managed by Ukrainian operators. Since the beginning of hostilities, it has been constantly subjected to shelling, in which Russia and Ukraine blame each other.

On August 25, as a result of the damage received during the shelling, the station was completely disconnected from the power grid for some time for the first time in history. The head of the Ukrainian Energoatom, Pyotr Kotin, also claimed that Russian engineers had developed a plan to switch the NPP in case the fighting would lead to the rupture of the remaining lines. The company has already admitted that Russia plans to switch the Zaporozhye NPP to the Crimea, to other power lines; in this case, Ukrainian troops can “kill” the power lines with which the Russian side will try to do this, Kotin warned.

The head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, has repeatedly called for an end to hostilities near the facility in order to avoid a nuclear catastrophe. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has repeatedly called for the demilitarization of the Zaporozhye NPP. This goal was also called by the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, but the Russian side opposes, arguing that the station will become more vulnerable.
