Yle: a contestant with citizenship of Russia and Finland was excluded from the Finnish show “The Voice”
According to the participant, she had not previously faced discrimination in Finland. “That is, I am a citizen of Finland, I can vote in the presidential elections, but I cannot sing on stage on the air of a Finnish TV show. It just destroyed me morally,” the girl said.
The executive director of the ITV production company, Pete Paavolainen, told the publication that the producers and the TV channel made a hasty decision, which turned out to be wrong. He assures that the organizers treat all candidates equally, but “the global situation creates a certain approach in society and show business.” He said that the contestant was already called back.
As the newspaper notes, it is known about another case of the removal of a candidate with Russian citizenship, later he was also invited to return. He is considering this possibility, Paavolainen noted, but the girl has already refused.

RBC sent a request to the Nelonen TV channel and asked for a comment on the show “The Voice” in Finland.
The Voice is a reality show in which four popular artists select participants for their teams among novice performers. Candidates are selected blindly: mentors sit with their backs to the participants during the performance of their songs and only hear them. The artists train them and periodically perform together with them, the winner is chosen by the viewers. For the first time, the show was held in the Netherlands, after which many countries, including Russia, had their own versions of the project.
On the night of September 29-30, the Finnish authorities banned the transit through the country of Russians with Schengen visas, including those issued by other countries. Russian citizens can enter only for family reasons, for study, work or if there is real estate in the country.
