Siemens Energy announced the absence of technical reasons for stopping Nord Stream

The company explained that such leaks, which Gazprom stated, “usually do not affect the operation of the turbine and can be eliminated on the spot,” and expressed readiness for technical work

The German company Siemens Energy, which services turbines for the Nord Stream gas pipeline, did not see in Gazprom’s statement about the termination of pumping for technical reasons, a company representative told RBC.

“Such leaks usually do not affect the operation of the turbine and can be eliminated on the spot. This is a routine procedure during repair work. In the past, the occurrence of this type of leaks did not lead to a stop,” they noted there.

Siemens Energy has expressed readiness for technical work.

The company recalled that it had repeatedly talked about the availability of additional turbines at the Portovaya CS, which are sufficient for the operation of the Nord Stream.

Siemens Energy announced the absence of technical reasons for stopping Nord Stream

Gazprom has completely stopped the Nord Stream gas pipeline, pumping through which was suspended for repairs, due to an oil leak. It was discovered during the maintenance of the turbine. Rostechnadzor warned that the detected malfunctions “do not allow for safe trouble-free operation of the gas turbine engine”.

On August 31, gas pumping through the pipeline was stopped due to the repair of the only working gas pumping unit at the Portovaya compressor station, Gazprom reported. The gas supply was planned to be restored on September 3.

Since the end of July, deliveries via the Nord Stream have been reduced to 20% of the maximum capacity due to problems with turbines. One of the engines got stuck in Canada, where it was under repair, because of the sanctions of this country against Russia. Ottawa eventually agreed to send a turbine to Russia through Germany to circumvent the sanctions, however, “Gazprom” stated that this decision without the consent of the Russian side does not meet the terms of the contract with the British company Industrial Turbine Company (UK) Limited (part of the Siemens group Energy) for the repair of turbines.

Siemens Energy, in turn, said that the turbine is ready for operation and it can be sent to Gazprom immediately if the Russian company wants it. The company believes that Gazprom cut pumping for political reasons, Moscow has repeatedly denied this accusation.

But many people are now marked with a “yellow star”, the politician said.

Ex-member of the Security Council of Ukraine estimated the losses of the Ukrainian army in the hundreds of thousands

AtKrajinsky General Sergei Krivonos believes that the losses of Ukrainian forces during the military conflict can already be counted in the hundreds of thousands. The latest official data on Ukraine’s total losses were published in April

Ex-member of the Security Council of Ukraine estimated the losses of the Ukrainian army in the hundreds of thousands

Sergey Krivonos

Former Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, former Deputy Commander of the Special Operations Forces of Ukraine, Major General Sergei Krivonos, in an interview with the online publication UMN, said that Ukraine’s losses since February have reached “hundreds of thousands of dead”.

“I clearly understand that what we stood up to in February, March and April is not because the authorities did something, but because the people organized themselves and did it without expecting any commands. And this is just our great achievement, and this is our right to tell the authorities: why didn’t you do anything, why dozens, and already we understand that hundreds of thousands died, why did they die?»— quotes his words «Country».

Krivonos is a participant in military operations in the east of Ukraine. He held the post of Deputy Secretary of the NSDC from March 2019 to December 2020. He was removed from this post by the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky. After that, Krivonos repeatedly criticized the decisions of Zelensky and the new command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In August, it became known that the State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine was conducting a criminal case against him because of the orders given to them when organizing the defense of the Kiev Zhuliany airport in FebruaryMarch.

In June, Mikhail Podolyak, an adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, said that the daily losses of Ukrainian forces amounted to 100 to 200 soldiers killed. Shortly before that, Zelensky claimed that 60 to 100 soldiers were killed every day, and about 500 more were injured. The last time Zelensky called the total losses of the Ukrainian army during the Russian special operation was in mid-April. He said that 2.5-3 thousand people were killed, another 10 thousand were injured. The commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny said on August 22 that the irretrievable losses of the Ukrainian army amount to about 9 thousand people.

The Russian Ministry of Defense in April reported about 23 thousand dead soldiers of the “Ukrainian army, National Guard and foreign mercenaries who arrived”.

The Ministry last reported on the losses of the Russian army on March 25: according to the Defense Ministry, they amount to 1,351 dead and 3,825 wounded.

G7 ministers agreed to introduce a ceiling on Russian oil prices

Andthe initial level of price restrictions can be revised, the ministers agreed. The G7 countries intend to prohibit the provision of services to ships that will transport raw materials worth more than the price ceiling. The Kremlin previously called the measure absurd

G7 ministers agreed to introduce a ceiling on Russian oil prices

The finance ministers of the Group of Seven countries have agreed to introduce a ceiling on prices for Russian oil, according to Reuters and a Sky News correspondent.

As Sky News correspondent Tamara Cohen clarified on Twitter, the ministers came to such an agreement at a virtual summit. According to the Chancellor of the British Treasury, Nadhim Zahavi, the measure includes a ban on insurance and financing of tankers carrying Russian oil at a price above the agreed price ceiling, the journalist reported.

Reuters, with reference to the statement, writes that the initially chosen price limit, based on technical inputs, can be revised if necessary. The G7 states will also develop mitigation mechanisms that will allow vulnerable countries to gain access to energy resources, including Russian ones. They called on other countries to join the restrictions.

“We are striving to coordinate the implementation with the schedule of relevant measures within the framework of the sixth package of EU sanctions,” the statement says.

Video

The press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov earlier called the possible introduction of a price ceiling absurd. He recalled the words of Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak that “those countries that will join the potential “ceiling” will not be among the recipients of Russian oil”. Russia is calculating all options for the development of events, there are alternative scenarios for the development of the situation, he said. Peskov stressed that such a decision would lead to a significant destabilization of the oil markets.

Earlier, the Financial Times, citing sources, reported that the finance ministers of the G7 countries intend to set a ceiling on oil prices from Russia, which will begin to operate from December 5 for crude oil and from February 5 for petroleum products. According to the newspaper’s interlocutors, the restriction will take effect simultaneously with the EU embargo on the import of Russian oil. Limiting the marginal prices for Russian oil and petroleum products will be effective if it is supported by third countries, for example, India, which buys Russian oil in large quantities, the newspaper’s interlocutors say.

On the eve of the fact that the G7 plans to impose restrictions on oil prices, The Wall Street Journal also reported, citing sources. According to US Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo, the Group of Seven expects to ensure that Russian oil continues to enter the market, but to reduce the revenues that Moscow receives from the sale of the resource.

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said that the introduction of a price ceiling would not only reduce Russia’s revenues, which, according to the minister, are necessary for the continuation of hostilities in Ukraine, but also support reliable oil supplies to the world market and help in the fight against inflation. The head of the British Treasury said that this measure would be effective if India, Turkey, South Africa and Norway were involved in limiting oil prices.

The European Union agreed on a partial embargo on Russian oil in early June. Russian oil supplies to the EU by sea should stop from December 5. In addition, insurance and reinsurance of sea transportation of Russian oil and petroleum products to third countries will be prohibited.

Khabensky announced the cancellation of performances at the Moscow Art Theater due to the operation in Ukraine

Paccording to the artistic director, in the conditions of a special operation, it would be inappropriate to put material ironic on the topic of military operations. Some of the performances will not be presented in the new season due to the increased deadlines for obtaining the rights to the production

Khabensky announced the cancellation of performances at the Moscow Art Theater due to the operation in Ukraine

Konstantin Khabensky

Several productions of the Moscow Art Theater are planned for the new season. Chekhov was canceled due to the military operation in Ukraine, the artistic director and director of the theater Konstantin Khabensky said.

According to him, the Moscow Art Theater had to abandon some of the performances announced in December—January, because «it is humanly wrong now to take material for the stage of the Art Theater, which was somehow ironic, fidgeting or had its own interpretation on a topic related to any military actions and related to between human tragedies». The artistic director offered in return to give the viewer something that would allow him to “look into himself”, calm down, hear others.

“A special military operation is underway. People die almost every day. <..."We are not obliged to comment on events, but to feel the situation, to feel the mood of the audience, to feel what they are coming to us for now, we must," Khabensky stressed at the troupe's gathering before the opening of the 125th theater season (quoted by RIA Novosti).

Another reason for the postponement of some premieres, he called the increased deadlines for obtaining the rights to the production, but this is “a matter of patience and time.”

After the start of the military operation in Ukraine, Khabensky wrote on Instagram (the social network belongs to the extremist and banned Meta company recognized in Russia) that he had never participated in the discussion of politics and was not going to. He said that in circumstances where people are dying every day, it is difficult for him and his colleagues to do their job, but they will continue to do it. “Because the theater is the place where they talk about a person, about the life of the human spirit, about the value of human life,” the actor and director explained.

The EU has allowed a ceiling on prices for Russian gas at the European level

Fhe der Leyen allowed the ceiling of prices for Russian gas at the European level According to the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, the EU countries were able to meet the norm for gas storage capacity by 80% faster than planned

The EU allowed the ceiling of prices for Russian gas at the European level

Ursula von der Leyen

The time has come for the EU to introduce a ceiling on prices for pipeline gas from Russia, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said, Reuters reports. According to her, such a measure may be proposed at the European level.

The head of the EC also noted that the EU countries managed to fill gas storage facilities by 80% even earlier than planned.

Earlier, the leaders of the “Group of Seven” (G7; unites Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada, France, Japan and the USA) spoke about plans to limit prices for Russian gas. They discussed this idea at a summit in June. Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi spoke about the EU’s plans to consider the price ceiling for Russian gas back in April.

Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, commenting on this possibility, called the price ceiling a subject of discussion between the G7 countries and Gazprom.

After the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, the EU countries decided to reduce dependence on gas from Russia: buy it in other countries and switch to alternative energy sources. Moscow, in turn, has introduced a new mechanism for paying for gas for “unfriendly states” in rubles. Deliveries to countries that refused to pay in Russian currency, such as Poland and Bulgaria, stopped, and to some other countries (Germany, France)— reduced.

Against the background of rising gas prices and concerns about the complete cessation of supplies from Russia, a gas crisis began in Europe, the authorities of many countries urged residents to save energy resources. The European Commission has set a task for all EU countries to fill the storages by at least 80% before the start of the heating season (November 1).

Scholz promised to continue negotiations with Putin

ToGerman Chancellor Scholz called for the continuation of negotiations with Putin, the German Chancellor assured that he would continue to communicate with the Russian president against the background of military operations in Ukraine. Since their beginning, the leaders have called nine times, the last conversation took place at the end of May

Scholz promised to continue negotiations with Putin

Olaf Scholz

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz would like to continue negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He said this at a meeting with residents of the city of Essen, the broadcast was on the government website.

“I met with the Russian president in Moscow at a long table. I’ve talked to him on the phone many times. And I will say clearly that I will continue to do this,” Scholz noted (quoted by RIA Novosti).

He said that he is in close contact with Putin and is not going to give up cooperation.

Immediately after the start of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine, Scholz called the fighting a “serious mistake” and warned the Kremlin about the “bitter price” that would have to be paid. At the same time, the German Chancellor continued the dialogue with Putin. During the entire period of hostilities, they called nine times and discussed the situation in Ukraine, negotiations between the delegations of Moscow and Kiev, payment of gas, export of Ukrainian grain and the lifting of sanctions that interfere with the export of Russian fertilizers. During the calls to the President of Russia, Scholz advocated a cease-fire in Ukraine.

The German Chancellor has repeatedly spoken about the importance of negotiating with Putin. On June 17, he announced that he would continue to talk with the Russian president so that Russia and Ukraine would sign a peace agreement acceptable to Kiev.

On the 28th, Scholz again stressed the need to communicate with the Russian president, despite the difference of opinion. At the same time, he pointed out the futility of negotiations until Putin himself realizes that it is necessary to end military operations.

“No matter how difficult it is, direct communication is important, especially during a crisis. I want our messages to reach the President of Russia directly, so that Russia takes responsibility. My clear message to him is that his strategy towards Ukraine will not work. Putin should know what we demand from him, which is why I think such conversations are important, including in the future,” Scholz said on August 17.

The position of the German Chancellor on relations with Russia during the fighting has caused criticism both inside and outside the country. It was also connected with the fact that the Scholz government did not coordinate the supply of weapons to Ukraine for a long time.

In April, the leader of the opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Friedrich Merz criticized Scholz for insufficient support for Ukraine. He noted that the chancellor was “silent and told only half the truth,” and also delayed the supply of weapons to Kiev, so society in Germany and abroad quickly stopped perceiving him as a person with strong and strategic thinking and lost confidence in him.

Later, the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, Andriy Melnyk, rebuked Scholz for the “sluggishness of politics”. He recalled that not a single representative of the German government had arrived in Ukraine since February 24, and Scholz himself, who lacked the courage, adopted the strategy of “waiting and observing”.

The head of the German government rejected accusations of insufficient aid for Ukraine. He explained the delay in the supply of weapons by the preparation of the Ukrainian military for their use . On June 16, Scholz, along with French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, arrived in Kiev and met with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky.
