The German company Siemens Energy, which services turbines for the Nord Stream gas pipeline, did not see in Gazprom’s statement about the termination of pumping for technical reasons, a company representative told RBC.
“Such leaks usually do not affect the operation of the turbine and can be eliminated on the spot. This is a routine procedure during repair work. In the past, the occurrence of this type of leaks did not lead to a stop,” they noted there.
Siemens Energy has expressed readiness for technical work.
The company recalled that it had repeatedly talked about the availability of additional turbines at the Portovaya CS, which are sufficient for the operation of the Nord Stream.
Gazprom has completely stopped the Nord Stream gas pipeline, pumping through which was suspended for repairs, due to an oil leak. It was discovered during the maintenance of the turbine. Rostechnadzor warned that the detected malfunctions “do not allow for safe trouble-free operation of the gas turbine engine”.
On August 31, gas pumping through the pipeline was stopped due to the repair of the only working gas pumping unit at the Portovaya compressor station, Gazprom reported. The gas supply was planned to be restored on September 3.

Since the end of July, deliveries via the Nord Stream have been reduced to 20% of the maximum capacity due to problems with turbines. One of the engines got stuck in Canada, where it was under repair, because of the sanctions of this country against Russia. Ottawa eventually agreed to send a turbine to Russia through Germany to circumvent the sanctions, however, “Gazprom” stated that this decision without the consent of the Russian side does not meet the terms of the contract with the British company Industrial Turbine Company (UK) Limited (part of the Siemens group Energy) for the repair of turbines.
Siemens Energy, in turn, said that the turbine is ready for operation and it can be sent to Gazprom immediately if the Russian company wants it. The company believes that Gazprom cut pumping for political reasons, Moscow has repeatedly denied this accusation.
