In the east of Ukraine, during the fighting on January 18, Daniel Swift, a former special forces soldier from the United States, was wounded, Time reports, citing a representative of the American Navy.

Daniel Swift was a “first class operator” in the Special Forces of the US Navy (Navy). He voluntarily left the service, the source noted. According to the magazine, Swift has been in the status of a deserter since the spring of 2019.

CNN, with reference to a representative of the US Navy, also reported Swift’s death in combat in Ukraine on January 18.

The State Department confirmed to Time the death of a US citizen in eastern Ukraine, but did not name him “out of respect for privacy at this difficult time.”

According to the magazine, Swift first joined the service in 2005. He received medals for the campaign in Iraq, for the campaign in Afghanistan and the expeditionary Medal for the global war on terrorism.

Earlier, on January 17, the press service of the founder of the Wagner PMCs, Yevgeny Prigozhin, reported the death of a fighter of the French Foreign Legion, Yevgeny Kulik, on the territory of the DPR.

“Colleagues from the French Foreign Legion have asked us to find Yevgeny Kulik. We regret to inform you that a fighter of the French Foreign Legion was found dead on the territory of the DPR,” the message said.

In early January, the Russian Defense Ministry reported a strike on the units of the “foreign Legion” in the Donetsk direction near Markovo and Kramatorsk, as well as in Novoosinovo in the Kharkiv region. As a result, more than 70 foreign mercenaries were killed and more than 100 wounded.

The Russian Aerospace Forces also carried out precision strikes on the temporary deployment points of the “foreign Legion” in the Maslyakovka and Kramatorsk areas in the DPR, as a result of which more than 130 foreign mercenaries were killed.
