The Ukrainian minister announced damage to up to 40% of the energy infrastructure

As a result of Russian strikes in Ukraine, 30 to 40% of the energy infrastructure has been damaged, the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy, German Galushchenko, told Reuters.

According to him, at least half of the thermal generation capacity was affected, although not all damaged stations stopped working. The minister estimated the losses from the strikes at several billion dollars.

Galushchenko called the import of electricity one of the options for resolving the current situation in the energy sector, negotiations are already underway with potential suppliers.

Russia has been launching missile strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure since October 10. The authorities called these attacks a response to the terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge, which, according to President Vladimir Putin, was staged by the Ukrainian special services. The Ministry of Defense called the targets of the strikes objects of military control systems, communications and energy.

“We see that they (the Russian military.—RBC) struck at several new [facilities], but they also fired at [facilities] that had already been shelled in order to completely destroy them,” Galushchenko noted.

As a result of the strikes, power outages began in Kiev, Dnepropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Lviv, Ternopil and other regions of Ukraine. In some regions, electricity consumption was limited on October 20.

Galushchenko’s adviser Alexander Kharchenko said on October 19 that about 40% of the country’s energy infrastructure was seriously damaged. He warned about emergency and planned outages.
