The Kremlin considers the statement of the Ukrainian authorities about the possible seizure of Transnistria quite provocative. This was stated by the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov, RIA Novosti reports.
So, when asked how the Kremlin regards the words of the adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, Alexei Arestovich, that the Armed Forces of Ukraine can take control of Transnistria, Peskov replied: “Quite provocative. That’s all I can say.”
Earlier in the day, Arestovich said that Ukraine is ready to take control of Transnistria if a corresponding request is received from Moldova. “Moldova should turn to Ukraine and Romania for help because of the aggravation in Transnistria. If Moldova turns to Ukraine, then we can take control of Transnistria. The APU has enough forces for this,” he said.
Armed attacks on civilian and military infrastructure have been taking place in Transnistria for several days. In particular, on April 25, a grenade launcher fired at the building of the Ministry of State Security in Tiraspol. The next day, two explosions occurred in the village of Mayak, near the radio center, and the antennas that were relaying the Russian radio were disabled.
After that, the Government of Pridnestrovie declared a red level of terrorist threat in the republic. At the same time, Moldovan President Maia Sandu held a meeting of the republic’s Security Council, following which she reported that there is tension in Pridnestrovie between different forces within the republic that want to destabilize the situation.
