A telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Joe Biden will take place on December 7. This was announced by the press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov, RIA Novosti reports.

He clarified that telephone conversations are scheduled for Tuesday evening, but did not give the exact time.

“The presidents themselves will determine,” he said, answering a question from journalists, at what time the negotiations will begin and how long they will last.

Reuters, citing a White House representative, reported that Biden plans to discuss the situation around Ukraine with Putin, in particular, to express concern about Russia’s military activity near the Ukrainian border. According to him, the meeting will be held in the format of a video conference call.

In early December, Kommersant wrote, without specifying the source, that the presidents could meet via video link on December 7 to discuss Ukraine and bilateral relations between Russia and the United States.

The Washington Post wrote that the organization of the meeting was the main topic of the visit of CIA Director William Burns to Moscow in November. The newspaper reported that the heads of state should call in December, and at the beginning of 2022 they plan to hold a personal meeting in Washington.

American Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced on December 3 that negotiations between the presidents of Russia and the United States will take place “in the very near future”. On the same day, the assistant to the Russian president for foreign Policy, Yuri Ushakov, said that the date of the meeting had already been agreed.

The press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov advised to wait for the meeting “at any moment”. According to him, the leaders can discuss the situation in Ukraine and Russia’s relations with NATO. Ushakov said Putin and Biden would also discuss the situation in Afghanistan, Libya, Syria and Iran.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov pointed out the need for a meeting between Putin and Biden, as the problems affecting the two countries are multiplying.
