The interview in which businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin criticizes the authorities of St. Petersburg, “is a private statement of a private entrepreneur defending his business interests,” the press service of the city administration told RBC.
The interview was published by the portal “Nevsky News” (part of the media group “Patriot”, the head of the Board of Trustees of which is Prigozhin). In it, the entrepreneur stated that St. Petersburg is completely devoid of investment attractiveness, since it is “headed by a gang of people who fill their pockets and do not keep their word.” The governor and officials, in his opinion, prevent business from working.
As an example, Prigozhin cited his development project on the arrangement of the territory of “Gorskaya”, on which he “spent a lot of money”. “My company signed an investment agreement with [St. Petersburg Governor Alexander] Beglov at the 2021 Economic forum, which as a result he wiped his feet,” the businessman said.

In 2021 Smolny signed an agreement on the development of this territory with the company “Megaline” associated with Prigozhin. “Kommersant” wrote that on the site of the industrial zone, the investor planned to build several hotels, a private cadet college, an innovation center, a dam museum with a viewing platform, an institute of marine technology and tourism, dormitories, as well as organize the improvement of the embankment.
“RBC Petersburg” wrote that the total investment in projects was 240 million rubles. At SPIEF-2022, “Megaline” presented its project for the development of the territory, but at the end of the presentation, the CEO of “Megaline” Gennady Korupyatnik said that the plan would not be implemented: the day before he learned that the city had signed a notice of termination of the agreement concluded with the company at last year’s forum. Vice-Governor Nikolay Linchenko explained to “Business Petersburg” that the authorities had considered the proposals received in April by “Megalyne”, sent their comments, but received no response. “As a result, it was decided to change the partner for the development of the territory. In April, speaking with a report to the legislative assembly, Beglov again touched on the topic of “famous businessmen”. “One of the well-known businessmen with a bunch of his semi-criminal comrades, who was supposed to protect children in schools, kindergartens and provide quality food, robbed our children. Instead of building new enterprises, our state-owned ones began to go bankrupt. Just in timestopped. A criminal case has been opened. But we are systematically and calmly cleaning our city from gray schemes and dirty methods of work. Only 23 criminal cases were initiated in connection with poor-quality snow removal.
