Ukraine can count on permanent solidarity and support from the UK. This was stated by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

“It was a great honor to talk with the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky this evening. Both he and the Ukrainian people can count on the continued solidarity and support of Great Britain. We will always be on the side of Ukraine,” Sunak wrote on Twitter.

The British Prime minister’s website says that Sunak assured Zelensky that the support would be “as strong as before”. Both leaders agreed that it is necessary to continue to put pressure on Russia with economic sanctions.

Sunak also expressed hope that he would meet Zelensky in person soon. Earlier, the Ukrainian president invited the British Prime Minister to visit Ukraine.

“I believe that the partnership between our states and the already traditional British leadership in the protection of democracy and freedom will only strengthen in the future,” Zelensky said in the telegram channel.

Earlier, Sunak said that he believes that the conflict in Ukraine should be ended. He admitted that he took office as Prime minister at a “difficult moment”.

Rishi Sunak was officially appointed Prime Minister of Great Britain on October 25. From February 2020 to July 2022, he headed the Treasury, but resigned due to disagreement with the actions of Boris Johnson.

Then he decided to compete for the post of prime minister, but lost to the then acting British Foreign Minister Liz Truss. She served as Prime Minister for 45 days, after which she resigned due to mistakes in economic policy.

The press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow does not see in the appointment of a new head of the British government prerequisites for improving relations between the countries.

“Of course, it is not necessary to expect any epiphany and some political wisdom from anyone in the countries of the collective West, including the UK,” he said.
