Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the suppression of the activities of a terrorist group that planned the murder of a well-known Russian TV journalist. The head of state stated this at an expanded meeting of the Board of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

“This morning, the Federal Security Service authorities stopped the activities of a terrorist group that planned to attack and kill one of the famous Russian TV journalists,” Putin said.

After his statement, the Federal Security Service reported that the murder of journalist Vladimir Solovyov was planned. A group of neo-Nazis intended to do this on the instructions of the Security Service of Ukraine, the FSB DSP said in a statement.

According to Putin, curators from Western services are known in Moscow by name, first of all, of course, from the US CIA, who work with the security agencies of Ukraine. “Apparently, they give such advice. So much for the attitude to the rights of journalists, to the dissemination of information. This is the attitude towards human rights in general: they only care about their own rights, some based on their imperial ambitions, and some in the old-fashioned way based on their colonial past,” the head of state said.

“It won’t work in Russia,” he added.

The FSB reported that the suspects were detained and called them members of the terrorist organization National Socialism/White Power, banned in Russia. During searches at the residential addresses of the detainees, an improvised explosive device, eight homemade incendiary devices of the Molotov cocktail type, six Makarov pistols, a sawn-off hunting rifle, a RGD-5 grenade, more than a thousand cartridges of various calibers, drugs, fake Ukrainian passports with photos of members of the group, nationalist literature and paraphernalia were seized, the FSB reports.

“Members of the criminal group give confessions about the preparation of the murder of Solovyov, after which they planned to hide abroad. As part of the criminal case initiated by the Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia, the collection of evidence of the criminal activities of the detainees continues,” the special service noted.

On the evening of April 7, attackers attacked the editor-in-chief of the “New Newspaper” and Nobel laureate Dmitry Muratov, they doused him with paint on the Moscow-Samara train. The next day, the police detained a 36-year-old man on suspicion of attacking one of the attackers.
