Press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov responded to criticism of his understanding of patriotism by the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov.

“Competition in who is more of a patriot is hardly necessary. <..."Especially when we all have to be united around our country and our president," he told reporters, according to a correspondent of RBC.

At the request of journalists, Peskov defined the concept of “patriotism”. According to him, this is love for the motherland and a willingness to make sacrifices when it is required.

On April 2, the press secretary of the president in an interview with “Belarus 1” urged not to consider “enemies of the state” those who left Russia against the background of the military operation in Ukraine. Among them, he attributed Ksenia Sobchak and Ivan Urgant. The latter opposed the military operation and left Russia with his family. The TV presenter said that we are talking about a vacation and he will return.

Peskov said that he considers Urgant a “great patriot”, and stressed that he does not need to be recorded in the “fifth column”. In his opinion, “enemies of the state” are those who began to “seize power and attack military heroes”.

The day before, Kadyrov reacted to Peskov’s words. “I didn’t know, but it turns out that in order to become a patriot of your country, you need to criticize Russia’s actions, go abroad, and loudly and pathetically, creating a hype around the person, and then, when the political degree of confrontation drops, come back as if nothing had happened.” Kadyrov said.

In addition, Kadyrov was surprised by the reaction of the press secretary to the assignment of the rank of lieutenant general to him. On March 28, the Chechen authorities announced that President Vladimir Putin had signed a corresponding decree. Then Peskov said that he had not seen the document and could not comment on this data.

The head of Chechnya stressed that, together with the security forces, he is engaged in conducting a military operation day and night. «It was possible to somehow cheer up or comment more delicately, but not this one of yours «did not see the decree »,— Kadyrov replied to this.

He called Peskov’s priority scale “immature”. “We need to do something about it,” the head of Chechnya noted.

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev also spoke on the topic of patriotism the day before. «Patriotism— is not your way of thinking, it is your actions»,— Medvedev is convinced. He called the topic of patriotism “extremely difficult”. “Those who love their homeland have very different faces.

A traitor always has one face – the face of a traitor. The main thing is to distinguish this face in time,” he added. Two weeks ago, on March 25, Medvedev called criticism of the country’s leadership in the context of a special military operation in Ukraine a betrayal.

Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24. Two days later, Kadyrov announced that Chechen units were participating in it. At the end of March, he said that together with his son Adam, the mayor of Grozny and other Chechen officials, he came to Mariupol.
