In Irkutsk, a Su-30 fighter jet fell on a two-story apartment building, the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported.
“During a test flight, a Su-30 plane crashed. The plane crashed in the city limits, in the sector of private development. Fire and rescue units are working on the spot, the information is being clarified, the message says.
A fire started at the crash site, its area is 200 sq.m.
Two fighter pilots were killed, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported. “There are no casualties among the population. The fire on the ground is localized,” the department said.
Five people live in the house where the Su-30 fell, they were not at home during the crash, Irkutsk Mayor Ruslan Bolotov said.
“The specified address of the affected house is 2nd Sovetsky Lane, 4. 5 people live in it. They were not at home at the time of the tragedy. They were offered temporary accommodation,” he said.
The governor of the region Igor Kobzev went to the crash site.
“The United Aircraft Corporation” clarified that the Su-30SM crashed, it was performing an acceptance flight. The UAC created a commission to investigate the crash. “The extent of damage on the ground is being established. We are in cooperation with the emergency services,” added the corporation.
The Su-30 is a two-seat multi-purpose fighter of the 4+ generation. It began to be operated in 1992. The Su-30SM is an upgraded version of the aircraft, which has AL-31FA engines with a controlled thrust vector. The first flight of this modification was carried out in September 2012.
Upon the fact of the crash, the UK opened a criminal case under the article on violation of traffic safety rules and operation of air transport. The department reported that the fighter was flying without ammunition. Forensic investigators from the central office of the IC were sent to Irkutsk to help with the investigation.
