According to him, the experts of the International Atomic Energy Agency working at the plant at the moment were in a bomb shelter during the shelling. Vladimir Rogov, a member of the Main Council of the regional CAA, clarified that the artillery strikes fell on the special corps of the nuclear power plant, the communication overlap near it and the concrete fence. As a result of the shelling, a container with distilled water near the second power unit was damaged, he added.

The Russian military took control of the NPP at the end of February, but formally the largest nuclear power plant in Europe is still under the jurisdiction of the Ukrainian Energoatom. In July and August, Kiev and Moscow repeatedly accused each other of shelling the power plant. The Ukrainian authorities and the G7 countries called on Russian troops to leave the nuclear power plant. On September 1, a group of IAEA experts arrived at the NPP.
