A difficult period is coming in relations between Serbia and Kosovo, the situation is on the verge of conflict, but there is no reason to panic, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said during an address to citizens, Pink reports.
The Serbian leader decided to make a statement after his talks with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti in Brussels on November 21 failed. The parties tried to resolve the differences over the license plates, but did not reach an agreement.
Pristina demands that Serbs living in Kosovo do not use Serbian license plates, but re-register them with Kosovar ones. From November 21, in a partially recognized state (among those who did not recognize its independence, there is also Russia), those who drive with Serbian license plates were to begin to be fined.
As Vucic said earlier, the EU mediator, the head of the union’s diplomacy, Josep Borrel, demanded during the negotiations that Pristina not issue fines, and Belgrade did not issue new numbers.
“We should try to show that we didn’t want conflicts for a second. <...> We have to do our best to keep the peace. As for us, Serbia will respect [Borrel’s demand] and will not issue new license plates,” Vucic said in the appeal.
Kurti, as indicated by Kosovo RTK television, called Borrel’s proposal unacceptable, since the EU did not take responsibility for the “final agreement on normalization of relations between the two countries”. According to him, Pristina offered to conclude an agreement before March 2023, but they refused this deadline.

The Kosovo police warned that they will begin imposing fines in the morning of November 22, RTK reports. Vucic stated in his appeal that “everything the Pristina police have was sent to the north of Kosovo,” Informer writes.
Kosovo Serbs, who had previously expressed disagreement with Pristina’s position on license plates, announced in early November that they were leaving Kosovo’s political institutions, including the parliament and the government, until the authorities reconsider the decision on license plates.
