The conflict in Ukraine may resolve itself in the near future, according to US Army Secretary Christine Wormut.
“Although I think the war in Ukraine will resolve itself in the next year or two, I think we should think very seriously and be very concerned about the likelihood that [Russian President Vladimir] Putin will try to occupy the territory of Ukraine again,” Wormut said.
She also noted that Russia retains most of the capabilities of the Air Force, Navy and cyber units.
Last fall, President Joe Biden called the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine the only condition for ending the conflict. “I don’t think the conflict will be resolved until Putin leaves Ukraine,” he explained. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky also insists on this condition. United States Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin at the end of February did not rule out that military operations in Ukraine “will end with some kind of negotiations”.
Putin at the end of December last year declared Moscow’s desire to resolve the conflict “the sooner, the better”. The Kremlin claimed that a corresponding instruction to the Kiev regime from Washington was enough for this.
