The Nobel Foundation has decided not to invite the ambassadors of Russia and Belarus to the 2022 Nobel Prize ceremony in Stockholm, the foundation said in a statement. The award winners were announced in early October, and the award ceremony will take place in December.

“The Nobel Foundation invites ambassadors who are in Sweden, but due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine decided not to invite the ambassadors of Russia and Belarus to the Nobel Prize ceremony in Stockholm,” the message says.

The Ambassador of Russia to Sweden is Viktor Tatarintsev, the Ambassador of Belarus is Dmitry Mironchik.

RBC has contacted the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry for comment.

The board of the Nobel Foundation also refused to reconsider its decision not to invite the leader of the nationalist and right-wing populist party “Swedish Democrats” Jimmy Okesson to the ceremony. This political force, as part of a coalition with moderates, Christian Democrats and Liberals, won the last elections and is the second party in terms of the number of seats in the Swedish parliament.

The winners of the 2022 Nobel Prize were announced in early October. It has been awarded annually since 1901 in five areas: physics, chemistry, medicine, literature and peace promotion.
