The Russian military during the strategic exercises of the armed forces of Russia and Belarus “West-2021” at the Mulino training ground (Nizhny Novgorod region) for the first time used strike robots “Uran-9” and “Nerekhta”, the Ministry of Defense said in a message received by RBC.

So, the robots “Uran-9”, armed with anti-tank missile systems “Attack”, rocket-propelled infantry flamethrowers and 30-mm automatic cannons and PKTM machine guns (Kalashnikov tank machine gun upgraded), destroyed the manpower and military equipment of the conditional enemy at a distance of 3 to 5 km. Combat robots also covered motorized rifle units during the change of positions. In addition, during the exercises, robotic mine clearance systems “Uran-6” were used.

Meanwhile, the Nerekhta robots, equipped with a 12.7-millimeter Kord machine gun and a 30-millimeter AG-30M grenade launcher, were used for reconnaissance and fire support of military units.

“The combat robot “Nerekhta” as a platform is designed to conduct reconnaissance tasks, adjust fire on enemy positions, quickly deliver ammunition and equipment, ” the military department said.

The attack robots were assisted by the laser complex “Quarry”, which allows “detecting and suppressing optical means of reconnaissance and surveillance of tanks, other armored vehicles and small arms of the enemy”.

Russia has already used combat robots during the Russian-Belarusian exercises. Last time, the military for the first time used robotic attack systems “Platform-M” on a tracked chassis, armed with four grenade launchers and a Kalashnikov machine gun.

The exercises “West-2021” are held from September 10 to 16 at 14 training grounds on nine Russian and five Belarusian ones. The maneuvers involve about 200 thousand military personnel, more than 80 aircraft and helicopters, up to 760 units of military equipment, including more than 290 tanks, more than 240 guns, multiple rocket launchers and mortars, and up to 15 ships.
