The General Staff of the Military Forces of Ukraine confirmed that the Ukrainian military for the first time used a Turkish Bayraktar drone in the Donbass. This is stated in the Facebook of the General Staff. In addition, the APU published footage taken by a drone.
“Today, on October 26, 2021, by order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Valery Zaluzhny, the Bayraktar reconnaissance and strike unmanned complex was used for the first time in combat conditions in the area of the joint forces operation,” the report says.
According to the General Staff, this afternoon the opponents of Ukraine fired at positions near the settlement of Granitnoye. Two Ukrainian soldiers were injured, one of them did not survive. “With the onset of the shelling, the OSCE SMM urgently imposed a cease-fire requirement, sent a note through diplomatic channels. However, the occupiers did not react,” the message clarifies.
Then Ukraine used a drone “to force the enemy to cease fire”. He destroyed one artillery installation along with its calculation. At the same time, the drone did not cross the demarcation line. After that, the shelling of Ukrainian positions stopped.
A representative of the People’s Militia of the self-proclaimed DPR during a briefing on October 26 said that Ukrainian forces used artillery in the Granitnoye area. The losses or destruction of the artillery of the DPR forces are not mentioned in his message.
Ukraine purchased Bayraktar TB2 drones from Turkey in early 2019. They planned to equip them with high-precision MAM-L bombs, which are produced by the Turkish company Roketsan. Bayraktar TB2 is equipped with laser guidance systems. Its combat load consists of four missiles with a range of up to 8 km (in some modifications – up to 16 km).
