The Foreign Ministry announced no plans to return to the Iron Curtain

Russia does not intend to return to the Iron Curtain in relations with Western countries, but their plans in this regard are not known to Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in an interview with BelRos TV channel.

“We are not,” she said in response to a question about whether Russia will return to the Iron Curtain in relations with the West (quoted by RIA Novosti).— And what they will build at home, our Western partners [unknown]. ».

In early December, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that relations between Russia and the “collective West” continue to “degrade” and have come to a “critical point”. In these circumstances, the ministry noted, “a dialogue on security issues between Moscow and Washington is urgently needed.”

They also noted that the “involvement” of Ukraine in NATO could create military risks up to a “large-scale conflict” in Europe.

A little later, the Foreign Ministry stressed that Russia is ready to work constructively on the issue of security guarantees, despite disagreements with Western countries. Zakharova then stated that Moscow was taking practical steps towards dialogue on “key issues” within the framework of relations with the United States.

NATO, in turn, claimed that they were ready for confidence-building and constructive dialogue with Russia if it took concrete measures to reduce tensions in the situation with Ukraine. They stressed that such a dialogue should be conducted on the basis of reciprocity.

President Vladimir Putin, speaking at the annual press conference last week, said that the West has repeatedly ignored Russia’s concerns about its security. According to the President, in the 1990s Russia tried to build relations with Western countries, but they, in turn, made an attemptfurther collapse, and the alliance itself expanded to the east. As a result, the president explained, no one took into account Moscow’s concerns on these occasions. “Go away with your worries. We will do what we think is necessary,” Putin quoted the position of the West.
