The US authorities have made it clear unequivocally that they intend to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia, it is necessary to “notice the reality”, said TASS in the Russian Foreign Ministry.
“There is a hybrid war going on against our country, which [Minister Sergey] Lavrov spoke about in detail just recently. Arguments about “red lines” are in the past,” the department noted.
Lavrov claims that there is almost no hybrid war going on in Ukraine, but almost a real one, which, in his opinion, Western countries have been preparing against Russia for a long time.
On the eve of January 24, Dmitry Polyansky, Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations, announced the transition of the US “red lines” established by Russia. He said in an interview with an American journalist: “We are sending more and more signals showing that some red lines have been crossed, but perhaps the most red lines have not yet been crossed.” The diplomat recalled that Russia has nuclear weapons, and urged “to calculate all options” if the United States “escalates the conflict further and further”.
The Russian authorities and the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have explained the content of the “red lines” for Moscow several times. President Vladimir Putin in November 2021 stated that the speculative “red line” for Russia is the creation of threats to the country’s security emanating from Ukrainian territory, meaning by this the expansion of NATO’s military infrastructure into Ukraine. The Foreign Ministry called the “red line” the supply of long-range or more powerful weapons to Ukraine.
The United States insists that they do not want a conflict with Russia, and calls for reducing the intensity of rhetoric about the possible use of nuclear weapons. The head of the US Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, stressed that American servicemen would not participate in battles with the Russian army, a similar position was repeatedly voiced by President Joe Biden.
