Ten Ukrainian soldiers who left the territory of the Azovstal plant in Mariupol on Monday asked for negotiations, the founder of the Vostok battalion of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Alexander Khodakovsky, said on the air of the Russia 1 TV channel.

“Now there is such a lively stage of negotiations. <..."As it turned out, the group came out representing the interests of a more significant group that continues to be on Azovstal," he said.— <..."Several of our servicemen, officers, along with the group that came out of the tunnel with white flags, went back there together with this group to continue negotiations." Khodakovsky added that it is too early to talk about the results of the discussion.

In the morning, he reported that ten AFU fighters left the plant with white flags.

Fighting has been going on in Mariupol since the very beginning of the military operation. At the end of March, the Russian military began to storm the city. On April 21, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu reported to the president about the capture of the city, with the exception of the industrial zone, where, according to him, the remnants of nationalist formations remained. Vladimir Putin instructed to cancel the assault on “Azovstal” and ordered to block its territory “so that a fly would not fly”.

The Ukrainian authorities reported that not only Azov fighters (recognized as extremist in Russia and banned), but also employees of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the national police and border guards are in the industrial zone. Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk spoke about more than a thousand Ukrainian soldiers at the plant, among them hundreds of wounded. Kiev offered to exchange them for captured Russians.

There were also civilians on the territory of “Azovstal”. On April 25, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the opening of a humanitarian corridor from “Azovstal” for civilians. On May 11, the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin reported that there were no civilians left on the territory of the combine.
