Roskomnadzor blocked the project’s website by court order. It says the organization’s work was “aimed at promoting terrorism and extremism on the territory of Russia”
The website of the human rights project “OVD-Info” (included in the register of unregistered public associations performing the functions of a foreign agent) was blocked because its work “is aimed at promoting terrorism and extremism in the territory”, the press service of Roskomnadzor told RBC.
The department added that the website “OVD-Info” was blocked on the basis of the decision of the Lukhovitsky District Court of the Moscow region. His decision states that the information of the media project, “aimed at justifying the activities of extremist and terrorist associations, justifying the actions of participants of such organizations,” is considered prohibited. As the court found, such information was published on the website and in social networks “OVD-Info”.
“Taking into account the above, the activities of the media project are aimed at promoting terrorism and extremism on the territory of Russia,” Roskomnadzor added.
The agency restricted access to the site on the territory of Russia, and also sent requests to the administrations of social networks to delete the accounts of the organization.
OVD-Info insists that they have not received any notifications about the inspection from the prosecutor’s office, nor demands to remove the content, nor notifications about the court and the blocking of the site.
Roskomnadzor blocked the website “ATS-Info” on December 25.
In September, the Ministry of Justice added “OVD-Info” to the register of unregistered public associations that perform the functions of a foreign agent. The project must report to the Agency on planned activities and programs, as well as financial income and expenses. In addition, the organization must mark its materials with a note about the status of a “foreign agent”. Fines and criminal liability are provided for violation of the requirements.
“OVD-Info” tried to challenge the decision to enter into the register, but the court refused.
