The Polish energy company PGNiG has received a letter from Gazprom, which says about the complete suspension of supplies under the Yamal contract. This is reported on the company’s website.
“Currently, all deliveries to consumers are carried out in accordance with their demand. The companies are monitoring the situation and preparing for various scenarios,” the message says.
PGNiG considered Gazprom’s decision a violation of the contract and announced its intention to file claims against the Russian company, Interia reports.

The PGNiG agreement with Gazprom expires at the end of 2022. In early February, Warsaw announced that PGNiG was not going to conclude a new long-term contract with Gazprom for the supply of Russian gas.
Earlier, the Onet portal and the Bloomberg agency reported that Russia had suspended gas supplies to Poland under the Yamal contract. Nevertheless, Gazprom did not confirm this information and reminded that Poland has one day left to pay for gas.

The Polish government’s commissioner for Strategic Energy Infrastructure, Piotr Naimski, said on April 26 that Warsaw refuses to pay for gas supplies from Russia in rubles and is ready for all possible risks. He added that Poland can even disconnect itself from the gas supply “at any time”.
On this day, the Polish Foreign Ministry imposed sanctions against Russian campaigns, including Gazprom, Novatek and Novatek Green Energy.
On March 23, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to transfer gas payments to rubles for unfriendly countries, including the EU countries. The new gas payment scheme has been in effect since April 1.
Nevertheless, already in mid-April, Putin noted that there were failures in paying for Russian oil and gas supplies to unfriendly countries. So, some EU countries have reported that they do not intend to pay for gas in rubles. French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz noted that this requirement violates contracts.
