Earlier, Bloomberg, citing an internal EU document, reported that the European Union intends to discuss proposals on September 7 to introduce a ceiling on gas prices from Russia.
According to the agency, two possible instruments for price restraint will be discussed at the technical meeting: the price limit for imported gas and administrative pricing during an emergency for the regions most affected by gas supply disruptions.

The leaders of the G7 countries (Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada, France, Japan and the USA) spoke about plans to limit prices for Russian gas. They discussed this idea at a summit in June.
The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in turn, pointed out that the EU countries managed to fill gas storage facilities by 80% even earlier than planned.
According to the Association of European Gas Infrastructure Operators GIE on September 3, Germany filled gas storage facilities by 85.02%, thereby reaching the target for October. At the end of August, German Economy Minister Robert Habeck said that Germany’s gas storage facilities were filling up faster than planned.
Commenting on von der Leyen’s words, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev warned that if the EU sets a ceiling on prices for pipeline gas from Russia, then there will simply be no Russian gas in Europe.
Earlier, the ministers of the G7 countries confirmed their desire to abandon the use of Russian oil on their markets, as well as their intention to introduce marginal prices for it for other countries. This measure includes a ban on insurance and financial support for tankers carrying Russian oil at a price above the agreed ceiling.
In other words, buyers of Russian oil and petroleum products will have a choice: agree to buy them at a price not higher than a certain ceiling, or the West will completely prohibit its companies from transporting and insuring these raw materials.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said on September 1 that the Russian side, in response to the decision of the G7 and its allies to set a price ceiling, could simply stop supplying them with oil and petroleum products.
