Kiev explained the introduction of sanctions against Wildberries

Sanctions against the Russian company Wildberries were introduced in Ukraine due to the fact that the online store sold, among other things, the uniform and symbols of the Russian army. This was announced in Telegram by the Minister of Culture and Information Policy of the country Alexander Tkachenko.

“Russian retail, which, among other things, sells Russian propaganda and uniforms of Russian soldiers, will not work in Ukraine. We are talking about Wildberries, ” the minister wrote.

Tkachenko thanked the President of Ukraine and the National Security and Defense Council for supporting sanctions against Wildberries. “This is one more step in the struggle for the purification of the Ukrainian information space from Russian expansion. Anti-Ukrainian theses, books and stories have no place in Ukraine. The next step is— Russian OTT platforms, & mdash; said the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture, apparently meaning over-the-top services (these are, for example, online cinemas and streaming services).

The decision of the NSDC on sanctions against Wildberries was put into effect by Vladimir Zelensky the day before. The Ukrainian, Russian, Polish, Armenian, Belarusian, Kyrgyz, and Kazakh divisions of the company were on the sanctions list.

Economic restrictions imply the blocking of assets, a complete ban on the transit of resources through Ukraine and the withdrawal of capital from its territory, the suspension of the fulfillment of economic and financial obligations, the termination of the provision of telecommunications services, the ban on the transfer of technologies and intellectual property rights.

In addition, the founder of Wildberries and the richest woman in Russia, Tatyana Bakalchuk ($13.1 billion according to Forbes), her husband Vladislav, Wildberries Information technology development Director Andrey Revyashko and the head of the Wildberries Books department, Alexey Kuzmenko, fell under personal sanctions of Ukraine.

They were blocked assets in Ukraine, banned from withdrawing money abroad and suspended the fulfillment of economic and financial obligations.

Wildberries started working in Ukraine last fall. Vyacheslav Ivashchenko, the network development director, promised to open 800 partner points for issuing orders in the country.

However, later there were reports that in the online store you can buy goods with the symbols of Russia and Russian law enforcement agencies, as well as images of President Vladimir Putin. The authorities allowed sanctions against Wildberries because of these goods, as well as books with anti-Ukrainian content.
