Yekaterinburg police have opened a criminal case of defamation against political scientist Fyodor Krasheninnikov. This was announced by Krasheninnikov himself in his Telegram channel.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs saw signs of a crime under Part 2 of Article 128.1 of the Criminal Code in Krasheninnikov’s statements to the Great Patriotic War veteran Ignat Artemenko.

This is the same veteran, of whom Alexey Navalny was found guilty of slander on February 20. The court sentenced the oppositionist to a fine of 850 thousand rubles.

In an interview with RBC, Krasheninnikov confirmed the information about the initiation of a criminal case. “Investigators on particularly important cases and interrogators clearly have nothing to occupy themselves with,” he commented.

As follows from the copy of the resolution published by Krasheninnikov, the case was initiated on July 23, the reason for it was the publication of the political scientist in his Telegram channel ” Telegram F. Krasheninnikova». According to the political scientist, he now lives in Lithuania.

He also said that the police had already come to the place of his registration, where his parents live.

RBC sent requests to the press services of the regional GU of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and the regional SU of the TFR.

In his post, Krasheninnikov noted that he had not been to Russia since August 9 last year, “so there can be no traces of my alleged February criminal activity in Russia, even theoretically,” so I really hope that my parents will be left alone.” “Article 128.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation threatens me with a fine in the worst case, although there is also an arrest. But since I have no criminal convictions, this measure is not applicable to me at all.& mdash; wrote a political scientist. According to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, Part 2 of Article 128.1 involves punishment up to imprisonment for up to two years.

Krasheninnikov became the first person arrested under the article on disrespect for the authorities. He was detained in July 2020. The reason was a repost in the Telegram channel of the news that President Vladimir Putin asked the Constitutional Court to clarify the possibility of zeroing presidential terms. The political scientist commented on this message, giving an assessment to the judges. Resultslinguistic expertise conducted by law enforcement agencies showed that Krasheninnikov’s post contains a humiliating and offensive statement.

The court arrested Krasheninnikov for seven days. He himself considered his case political and appealed the arrest to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
