The CIA and other American intelligence agencies have concluded that the Havana syndrome, which manifests itself in American officials on foreign business trips, is not related to the actions of foreign intelligence services. This is reported by The Washington Post with reference to the intelligence report.

The newspaper recalls that for many years diplomats, intelligence officers and others serving in US missions around the world have experienced what they called “strange and painful acoustic sensations”. Many of the victims said they were victims of a deliberate attack, possibly by Russia or another government.

According to WP, from the report of the American special services, which for several years have considered more than 1 thousand cases of “abnormal diseases”, it follows that “Havana syndrome” was not the result of the actions of a “foreign enemy”. So, five of the special services called “very unlikely” the possibility of using electronic or other weapons of influence causing “Havana syndrome”.

One of the newspaper’s sources explained that the intelligence report is based on the conclusions that the “Havana syndrome” occurred even in those geographical locations where US intelligence “actually had full opportunity to monitor the environment for signs of malicious interference”. Also, according to hisAccording to him, intelligence failed to find signs of foreign interference or “sanctions for an attack on American personnel,” including from Russia. Another WP source clarified that the report is not the completion of the work of the special services, which will continue the investigation when new information about the syndrome becomes available.

For the first time, the symptoms of the Havana syndrome were reported in 2016 by American diplomats in Cuba. They complained of sudden headaches, hearing and vision loss, balance problems and nausea. Medical examinations of diplomats revealed mild traumatic brain damage in some of them, as well as problems with the central nervous system. After that, the United States reduced its diplomatic presence on the island, and also decided to expel 15 Cuban diplomats. The Cuban authorities declared their readiness to assist the investigation and urged not to politicize the situation.

In 2018, an American diplomat was diagnosed with similar symptoms in China. In 2021, The Wall Street Journal wrote that American diplomats complained about the manifestations of “Havana syndrome” in Germany. In the same year, the newspaper reported on the evacuation of a CIA officer from Serbia due to the same symptoms. Unconfirmed cases were also in Poland, Georgia, Taiwan and Washington, the WSJ noted.
