The government of Afghanistan, formed by the “Taliban” movement (recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia and banned), has identified candidates for the post of “ambassador” to Russia, said Zabiullah Mujahid, Deputy Minister of Information in the Taliban government, RIA Novosti reports. However, the Taliban intends to send an ambassador to Russia only after Moscow recognizes the Taliban government.
“Yes, but we will announce it (the name of the future & laquo; ambassador».& mdash; RBC) after the recognition of the government, ” Mujahid said, answering the question about whether the movement has possible candidates for appointment to the post of representative in Russia.
In early August, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani (who has now fled the country) dismissed the Afghan ambassador to Russia, Latif Bahand. Mukhtar Humayun was appointed acting Ambassador to Russia. In early September, the 1 TV channel, citing a statement from the Afghan Foreign Ministry, reported that the Afghan diplomatic mission in Russia will be headed by Said Tayeb Javad, who previously served as the ambassador of Afghanistan to the UK.
“The Deputy Minister of the Taliban government said that the movement also sent a request to the UN to appoint its own permanent representative. A representative of the political office of Suheil Shaheen is planning to send a representative of the Taliban to New York to work in the international organization, but the UN has not yet responded to the request.
Mujahid said that the Taliban government will ask other countries, including Qatar, to assist in obtaining a place in the UN. The Taliban are planning to turn to Russia for help on several issues, including the lifting of sanctions, and consider Moscow to be the new mediator between the Taliban and the UN.
“We ask her (Russia.& mdash; RBC) assistance in the peaceful settlement in the region, in Afghanistan in particular, as well as in the process of rebuilding our country, ” Mujahid said.
According to him, Afghanistan has started receiving humanitarian aid from Russia, Qatar, Pakistan, the UN and other countries, but the Taliban expect that the volume of this aid will increase.
“We are asking for additional help. Russia has promised us help, and we are waiting. When it will be, I do not know. <…> Russia can also help with its economic, trade and investment projects in Afghanistan, ” the deputy minister said.

The Taliban seized almost the entire territory of the country in August and announced plans to restore the Islamic Emirate. This was the name of an unrecognized state on the territory of Afghanistan, which in 1996–2001 was under the control of the Taliban, in which women could not appear on the street without men, and girls could not go to school.
After the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan, the country’s president Ashraf Ghani fled to the UAE.
The leader of the Taliban, Habitullah Akhundzada, said in September that the new government, which will be formed by the militants, will ensure compliance with sharia law, take care of the rights of the disadvantaged and develop trade. He promised that the new government will take measures “to protect human rights, the rights of minorities, as well as the rights of disadvantaged groups within the requirements of the holy religion of Islam”. The Taliban promised to stone people only by a court decision.
