The forces of the European Union special mission in partially recognized Kosovo (EULEX) and the NATO-led international forces (KFOR) arrived at the barricades erected by the Serbs on the highway in the north of the province, near the town of Leposavich, reports Kosovo Online and Kurir.

According to the newspaper, the protesters are trying to prevent the transfer to Pristina of Kosovo policeman Dejan Pantic, an ethnic Serb arrested on the morning of December 10, who a few days ago, along with several colleagues, refused to continue serving in the Kosovo police and left his post in Kosovska Mitrovica.

According to the Serbian Kurir, a large number of Serbs who disagree with the arrest of Pantich gathered at the entrance from Leposavich. In the north of the region, the Internet and mobile communications disappeared, and sirens sounded in Kosovska Mitrovica and Zvecan. Barricades are also being erected in the villages of Sochanice and Leshko, the newspaper notes.

The photos published by Kurir show how several SUVs of the forces of the EU and NATO missions in Kosovo stopped at improvised barricades of several trucks on the highway.

The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija under the Government of Serbia, Petar Petkovic, said that the arrest of Pantic was “cruel revenge and intimidation” by the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti. “Kurti has now decided to pursue Serbian police officers, to whom he is trying to attribute actions to which they have nothing to do, without any grounds and evidence, in order to intimidate all Serbs who do not want to tolerate his terror,” Petkovic pointed out.

The escalation of the conflict between Pristina and Belgrade has been going on for several months. This is due to the requirement of the Kosovo authorities to travel on the territory of the republic only with local RKS numbers, and not with Serbian ones. Previously, drivers were allowed to re-register, but on November 21, fines for Serbian license plates began to be levied.November 5 Serbian Leader in Kosovo and Metohija, ChairmanThe party “Serbian List” Goran Rakic announced the withdrawal of the Serbs from all the institutions of power of the partially recognized republic. He also called the decision a violation of international agreements. In response, the President of Kosovo, Vyosa Osmani, scheduled early elections for December 18 in the north of the territory: in Leposavich, Northern Mitrovica (northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica), Zubin Potok and Zvecan.

On December 9, Belgrade accused the Kosovo police of “occupying” the northern part of the province. Petkovic then stated that more than 350 Kosovo policemen “occupied” the predominantly Serb-populated north of the province. He noted that the Kosovo police violated the Brussels Agreement and the Serbian authorities will consider the return of up to 1,000 security forces to Kosovo and Metohija.

The Brussels Agreement of 2013 on the normalization of relations between the governments of Serbia and Kosovo consists of 15 points. The first six relate to the creation, scope and functions of the community of Serbian municipalities in Kosovo, the remaining actions of the Kosovo police, municipal elections on the territory of the republic, energy issues, etc.

After that, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic held an emergency meeting with the Minister of Defense of the Republic Milos Vucevic and Chief of the General Staff Milan Moisilovic. Vucevic said at the end of November that if Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic ordered the army to protect the Serbs living in Kosovo, the military would take all measures for this.
