The acting governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, Mikhail Degtyarev, submitted documents for registration as a candidate for the post of head of the region to the election commission of the region, according to the commission’s website. Registration of candidates began on July 25.

Degtyarev was nominated by the Khabarovsk regional branch of the LDPR. He provided 183 signatures required to pass the municipal filter. The decision on registration must be made within ten days.

Degtyarev also put forward three necessary candidates for the post of senator. The list includes Deputy Chairman of the regional government for internal Policy Andrey Bazilevsky, chief doctor of the regional blood transfusion station Oksana Kozhemyako and deputy chairman of the regional veteran organization of submariners Georgy Perov.

The election of the governor of the Khabarovsk Territory will be held on September 19. Degtyarev became the acting head of the region at the end of July 2020. This happened after the previous governor, Sergei Furgal, was accused of organizing the murders of entrepreneurs, and he himself was removed from office by the president due to loss of confidence.

The change of the head of the region led to protests. The participants of the protest actions demanded a transparent and honest trial of Furgal in the region, and not in Moscow. One of the most massive protest actions took place on July 18. Then, according to the authorities, 10 thousand people participated in the rally. According to local media and activists, about 50 thousand people took to the streets of Khabarovsk on this day.

The LDPR party nominated Degtyarev as its candidate for the election of the head of the Khabarovsk Territory in mid-June. On July 20, Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that President Vladimir Putin was satisfied with Degtyarev’s work as acting governor of the Khabarovsk Territory over the past year. Peskov also noted that there is a lot of work in the region and Moscow is attentive to requests coming from the regional government.
