The chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, Gennady Zyuganov, in an interview with “Kommersant” before the start of the campaign for the elections to the State Duma, said about the “very great danger”.

Answering the question of how the upcoming elections will differ from the previous ones, Zyuganov noted that the situation in the country has changed since then, so the elections themselves are fundamentally different from the previous ones. “Our country and the entire planet have been gripped by a systemic crisis. The coronavirus pandemic has contributed to its exacerbation, but it is not the point. It is in the degradation of the system of public administration, which is observed both in our country and in the West, ” he believes.

Also, according to him, it is worth paying attention to the unfair distribution of national wealth and the constant growth of inequality, which is an inevitable consequence of neoliberal capitalism. “In the first half of the twentieth century, two similar crises ended in world wars. And today we are again standing on the threshold of a very great danger, ” Zyuganov said.

According to the Communist leader, there are only two ways to solve problems of this magnitude. This can be achieved either through fair elections that reflect the true will of society, rather than falsifying it, or with the “rifle and the cobblestone”. “In my opinion, the world is now at a political fork: either follow the path of socialist transformation, or move towards fascization,” Zyuganov said.

As the leader of the Communist Party noted, the principles of social justice were previously at the heart of the country’s development. “But we have all been robbed: the main resources of the country are owned by a narrow group of individuals who have concentrated nine-tenths of our resources in their hands,” the politician said. Without these resources, Zyuganov stressed, neither the government nor society can count on becoming one of the world’s leading economies and achieving a technological breakthrough, as well as overcoming mass poverty and stopping the demographic catastrophe.

The State Duma elections are scheduled to take place on September 19 on a single voting day. According to the VTsIOM poll for June 6, the Communist Party is supported by 12.7% of respondents (they answered the question of which party they voted for if the elections were held next Sunday). This is the second result, with United Russia in first place with 30.6% support.
