Russia will be able to transfer to the United States the opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who is serving a sentence in the case of “Yves Rocher”, only if it turns out that he has American citizenship and works for the special services. This was stated by the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov on the air of “Echo of Moscow”.

“If suddenly it is confirmed by the Americans officially that he is a citizen of the United States and works for the special services. There is no other way, ” Peskov said.

Peskov noted that the question of Navalny was raised during a conversation in a narrow format at yesterday’s summit of Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden in Geneva. “The conversation about Navalny took place in a routine manner. The topic was really raised, it was indicated by the US president. And there was a response from the President of Russia. And, as you understand, the verbatim narrow composition is never retold, ” the press secretary added.

He also noted that during the meeting, the possibility of issuing or exchanging Navalny to the United States was not discussed. At the same time, the presidents discussed the exchange of prisoners.

“Naturally, no one was engaged in checking the lists, the presidents usually conduct framework conversations, conceptual ones. But this topic was touched upon, this topic does not like publicity and should be worked out in silence, ” Peskov stressed.

In October last year, Peskov, commenting on the statement of the Speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin that everything that happened to Navalny was orchestrated by the special services of Western countries, said that such information really exists. “I can even say specifically that the specialists of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States of America are working with him these days,” the presidential press secretary said.

Navalny called these words “ridiculous accusations” and called on the authorities in prime-time television to present evidence of his cooperation with the US special services, if any.

In November, Navalny filed a lawsuit against Peskov for the protection of honor and dignity. The opposition leader considered that the press secretary of the president distributes untrue information about his work with CIA specialists. The court did not consider the claim and returned it to the applicant due to errors. In March 2021, Navalny again filed a similar lawsuit, and in May it was accepted for production.

Peskov said that the Kremlin never comments on court cases, so he will not express his opinion, even if the situation concerns him.

On February 2, Navalny was replaced with a suspended sentence by a real one in the case of Yves Rocher, the Federal Penitentiary Service considered that the opposition leader violated the conditions of serving his sentence while he was undergoing treatment and rehabilitation in Germany after being poisoned in August last year.
