A two-week monitoring of the situation with the incidence of coronavirus among graduates and their family members, organized after the “Scarlet Sails” holiday in St. Petersburg, showed a gradual decrease in the number of those infected from the observed group, said Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg Irina Potekhina on the VKontakte page.
Monitoring of sick graduates and their family members was conducted from the day of the event on behalf of the head of the federal operational headquarters Tatyana Golikova, Potekhina said.
« Last Friday— exactly two weeks from the day of the holiday. And we can sum up the monitoring: “There are no signs of an epidemic trace from the graduation event “Scarlet Sails”. And if in human language: all these 14 days, when an outbreak could manifest itself,the number of cases from the observed group gradually decreased, ” the vice-governor wrote.
The holiday “Scarlet Sails” was held in St. Petersburg on June 25. According to the Committee on Education, the citywide graduation gathered about 40 thousand graduates. The event caused a public outcry due to the large crowd of people at the height of the pandemic, social media users wrote that many were without masks and did not observe social distance.

Governor Alexander Beglov explained that it was important to give the graduates of 2021 “hope for the best”. “Our guys deserved to graduate in full-time format. We gave them this opportunity. We listened to the wishes of the parent community. They did not deprive 40 thousand people of a holiday that happens only once in a lifetime, ” he said. According to him, when issuing tickets, the authorities warned everyone that the final choice is up to them, and told about the possible risks and the need to use personal protective equipment.
The press secretary of the president Dmitry Peskov then said that in St. Petersburg during the holiday they followed the instructions of Rospotrebnadzor. “Each major event is carried out taking into account the recommendations of the sanitary authorities of a particular region and body. As far as we know, such recommendations were formulated in St. Petersburg, and they were implemented on the spot, ” he commented.
According to the federal operational headquarters for coronavirus, the number of cases of infection recorded in knocks in St. Petersburg has continued to grow since the beginning of summer: on June 6, 861 cases of infection were registered in the city per day, on June 27, 1298 new cases, and on July 12, 2029 cases.
