Swiss President Guy Parmelin said that Russian President Vladimir Putin during the talks pointed to the need to establish cooperation in the development of vaccines.

“President Putin raised issues related to COVID-19. He spoke about the need for cooperation in the development of various vaccines, ” Parmelin noted (quoted by TASS).

Commenting on the possibility of registering the Russian vaccine “Sputnik V”, Parmelin said that for this it is necessary to provide the relevant documentation to the Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products (Swissmedic).

On Wednesday, June 16, the first meeting of the Presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden, took place in Geneva. After that, Putin held a press conference, and then went to meet with the President of Switzerland.

The leaders of the two states did not hold a joint press conference after the talks, and Putin was the first to address the journalists. He announced the return to Moscow and Washington of the ambassadors who had been recalled for consultations in the spring. Putin also said that relations between the two countries have accumulated “a lot of blockages”, but, according to him, there was no hostility at the talks.

Biden called the atmosphere of the meeting with Putin “good and positive”. According to him, now there are real prospects for improving relations between Russia and the United States.

The use of the vaccine “Sputnik V” is currently allowed in two countries of the European Union-Hungary and Slovakia. The Ministry of Health assumed that the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and WHO will approve the drug in the coming months.

According to the Swiss Ministry of Health, two vaccines have now been approved in the country: a drug from Pfizer and BioNTech, as well as the American vaccine Moderna. The British vaccine AstraZeneca and the German Curevac are in the process of approval.

Over the past day, 159 cases of coronavirus infection were recorded in Switzerland. As of June 13, the number of vaccine doses administered was 6.1 million (Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna are being administered in two stages). The population of the country is 8.5 million people. Since the end of May, bars and restaurants have been opened in Switzerland, and the authorities have lifted restrictions on visiting sports and cultural events.
