This is how he reacted to the question of why the role of a private military company in the capture of settlements is not indicated in some reports about the capture of the settlements of Kleshcheyevka and Soledar, according to the telegram channel of the businessman’s press service.
“Me and my fighters are not up to studying applications. In this life (and in that one, too), it’s not the statements that matter, but the deeds that we do. Someone considers the PMCs “Wagner” a criminal organization, someone considers them terrorists, and it doesn’t matter either.
We have been given the right to defend our homeland, to save it at a critical moment, and we are using it. Such a right and the trust of the people is worth a lot,” Prigozhin said.
He stressed that when the services of PMCs fighters are no longer needed, the company will curtail its activities in Ukraine. “When we are no longer needed, we will pack up and go back to Africa. In the meantime, it is not the statement that is important to us, but what benefits we will bring to our country,” his press service quotes the words of the founder of the PMCs.
The Ministry of Defense announced the capture of Soledar on January 13. In the first statement about the control of the settlement, the fighters of the PMCs “Wagner” were not mentioned. “The capture of Soledar was made possible thanks to the constant fire defeat of the enemy by assault and army aircraft, rocket troops and artillery groups of Russian troops,” the Defense Ministry said. The agency also specifically mentioned the role of airborne units in the storming of the city.
After that, Prigozhin said that they were trying to steal the victory from the soldiers of the military company and belittle the merits within the framework of the Russian special operation. He reported on the control of the city two days before the Ministry of Defense, on January 11. Prigozhin stressed that no units participated in the assault, except for the fighters of the PMCs “Wagner”. Shortly after that, the Ministry of Defense published an updated message stating that the task of “directly storming the city blocks of Soledar” was solved “by the courageous and selfless actions of the volunteers of the assault squads of the PMCs “Wagner”.
On January 20, the Ministry of Defense reported on the capture of the village of Kleshcheyevka in the DPR. The PMCs “Wagner” was not mentioned in the summary, although the military department noted that the settlement was stormed by “volunteers of assault detachments”.
