“This is not political censorship. This is not censorship at all. We do not interfere in the editorial policy of the channel, ” Peskov was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti. He described the incident as “the impossibility of further interaction”.

The presidential press secretary also disagreed with the editor-in-chief of the radio station Echo of Moscow, Alexey Venediktov, who in his address called it erroneous to deprive Dozhd of accreditation under the President of Russia for covering illegal actions in support of Alexei Navalny. The channel did not cover illegal actions, but called for illegal actions de facto. This is absolutely not in keeping with the journalistic craft from our point of view, “he said.” This is what we use and will use in relation to the Rain, ” Peskov added.

Earlier, the editor-in-chief of Dozhd, Tikhon Dzyadko, said that the channel’s journalists have not participated in the work of the presidential pool for several weeks.

On June 14, Venediktov published an appeal in which he called the decision to exclude “Rain” from the pool “erroneous”. According to him, this causes “bewilderment and indignation”.

At the end of April, the police began to call journalists who covered the Moscow rally in support of Navalny on April 21. Law enforcement officers, in particular, demanded to submit documents on the basis of which the correspondents worked at the rally.
